this is so funny!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you've got lots of sense of humor
adarias. First off, congratulations on being top pick in this challenge. there were a lot of entries, that is a very good honor.
I believe what wolvies' speaking of perhaps reference the seemingly random nature of some of the color usage and blending methods used by those colors within certain structures in your sprite. To me, it looks like it was given a color limit and certain values were used in certain places simply because it was the closest palette entry that would fit. This applies, to my eye, with both hue and saturation choices within a specific area. for instance the shirt colors are largely desaturated and well picked, but the more saturated orange doesnt quite seem to have logic in that space, particularly when it is trying to blend values that are both lighter and darker than its own (because even if the luminosity is correct, the saturation breaks that continuity to some degree).
ive made a small edit perhaps to help illustrate what i mean. I very much hope you arent offended this is in no way meant to be a slight against you or your work, the only reason i took the liberty was because of your response to carnivac's comment.

One thing i did notice is that once i replaced the purple shade (which was the most 'off' color that i think anyone could have pointed out), i did find that it lacked some of that color variation the original one had, but i felt that was easy enough to remedy to throw that purple color back in at certain places that indicated some of that fantasy magenta lighting. This way the eye reads that color is in the sprite, but without having to sacrifice blending of values or form.
Many people may still prefer your original to my edits and im quite fine with that. I merely made it to illustrate a point and perhaps learn a thing or two about your sprite and your style in general in the process.
To wrap it up, ill say that i really love how you illustrated the dog! it adds a lot of personality to the sprite.
I mean like bits where for some reason the coloring seems outside of the outline like on the shoe on our right, or the on elbow on our left where there's like a block of color breaking through that outline there. The bag seems overdone particularly on the bottom right corner. And for something with about 20 colors it does seem rather flat and lifeless. Like I said I like the general design (even if I still find it too 'silly' for the challenge) I just think it needs a lil more work to really shine.
I dunno. Your other work usually shows a lot more sharp refinement and depth. Doesn't matter what I say anyways. Just noticed you won the challenge. Congrats.
Carnivac (I almost wrote Wolverine :P) - could you possibly expand on the sloppy technique part? I usually don't work at more than half this scale for characters, and I have a lot to learn about doing larger (for me, more difficult) forms. Any advice or precision critique would be hugely appreciated.
The purple was a mistake that originated with a crappy monitor - I didn't do device checking until after submission, and didn't want to alter it because it was a challenge piece :(
The design is good but the colors (particularly the ill-fitting purple) and sloppy pixel technique let it down so much.
Very cool. i love the fashion style used and the hanging objects really give a feeling of depth and gravity. also the doggie is ADORABLE. Great pallette choice too. the integrated reds ont he outlines really work.
Great piece =)
By far the best of them all. The only thing I do not like is your darned purple/red stuff. It burns. I tried replacing it with a brown colour and it looks a lot nicer imo. Still, this is number 1 as far as I am concerned.
Ha ha brilliant. The section with the dog and your hand is a bit hard to read at 1px but either way a beautiful entry. Lots of personality in this. =)
I can just hear Phoebe letting out a mini growl... *rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
definitely got my vote!
slym - thanks, I like to think i got back to my roots a little with this one.
Franuka - heh, i had a ponytail for a hot minute like 5 years ago. #neveragain.
tre - i've been quite busy with work. If i uploaded everything that i started but hadn't the time to finish, there would be many more updates!
At first glance I thought your dog was a ponytail (and you looked like Guybrush) and the leash was a crutch :p
This is awesome in many ways (Y)
I always draw myself chubby because i think it's more funny. I'm actually 5'6" at 124 lbs (so quite thin). This is my actual face.
earlier today I read the interview you have done here a couple years ago, checked out your gallery, liked it and wondered if you are still active here as your last upload has been sometime november 2011. So, now your back and how! Mighty nice work, good sir!
Ha!
This is a win. I was considering entering with something boring like me wielding the 2 foot bar of aluminium that I keep by my bed at night.
This challenge has been starving for an entry with personality like this one.
