I agree. Simple, cool, but not enough contrast. Perhaps start by making the dark red in the BG brighter.

Also, the purple "death star" in the upper left corner looks ugly.

Looks cool, nice factories and characters. But contrast between platforms and background is low: they are both dark, so it's hard to figure out what's happening.
