Wow .. daring picture. You know what, screw the modern fashion, where women are supposed to look like models, best the same one, so at the end you walk the street and get the feeling they must be cloned or something. Your piece is really beautiful in certain way. There is one thing though, when I look at the shadow of the bike, it strikes me. I looks that it doesn't belong there to me. But aside from that, very nice technique and style, not to mention idea.
Adorable! They are clearly having a lot of fun! Their goofy shoes on tiny feet on round bodies are especially cute.
its a little messy in some places, but its a great illustration and, of all things, i am really digging the bike! i personally would enjoy probably seeing the two people have a slight differentiation in skin tone to help discern the figures more from one another.
Thanx stickman! You're right, of course. Will see what I can do!
Thank you Jeremy, will totally go in again and see how colors can be helped!
In our eyes there is a clear difference between pornography and nudity. If they were lying there with legs splayed open it would be different. As Dennis said, there is an innocence and sense of humour here.
Besides, there is clearly a nudity warning.
Congratulations on creating such a controversial piece which people talk about so much.
I don't think it is harmful for anyone, regardless of their age, to view nudity in art. A younger viewer might just see two naked ladies on a bike having fun without even thinking of it as being sexual in any way. In fact, even I think the women in this piece are looking quite innocent, especially the happy smile from the left one does not seem to explicitly imply she's aroused, just happy.
Nice color selection and portrayal of action going on in the scene, good work.
regardless of your previous self identity as a male child, to show the young children browsing pixeljoint explicit representations of gender specific body parts only commonly seen in pornagraphic material and in artwork from back when people did not even seem to understand slavery was a bad thing "aka statue of david ect" would be something that would need to be cencored as far as the preview so as not to just spring that on them when they never intended to see it, and is not related to "stupid culture" putting restrictions on things. Anyone with a brain should undersand some things are not appropriate only because of a possible audiance that will view it. If anything it should be taken into consideration that some of the old artwork containing nudity should have warnings so as to give people a chance to avoid viewing something they did not want to see "aka being considerate" but not censoring creative expression. I'm sure you would find it upsetting if I was to flash my gender specific body parts "aka penis" at you on a plubic street with out giving you a choice in the matter and with no warning. lol
btw I KNOW MEN HAVE NIPPLES but we are talking about a female breast not just the nipple.
Nice pic.
My only nitpick, is the girl that's leaning back - her leg wrapped around the other girls leg, seems to lose form and volume as it wraps around the bottom. This makes it look more like it's a tentacle, rather than a full volume leg.
Hope this make any sense:)
Wonderful to see you back (even if you never left)! Lovely piece, nice colors! I'd be happy to hang this on the wall if it was a poster.
Good work :)
For me, what's important in the body of a woman is not how fat or how thin she is,
it's only the curves ;)
Ignoring all of the haters, I think you did a fabulous job on this piece! There's a really nice atmosphere with it.
And besides, fat used to be beautiful. Just throwing that out there.
UGH LESBIANS OR SOMETHING!
Joking, this is fabulous. They look so happy
You can't fight ignorance, but there should be a way to ignore or block users in this site :)
Cut it out. If you can't be cordial stop posting on this artwork. The gallery really isn't the place for discussions on standards of beauty or gender identity.
Neofotistou: I'm glad you fixed the banding, particularly around the hairline. The definition between calf and red shoe could do with being darker imo, the two colours next to each other buzz a bit. On skin tone, I do really think that either highlights or shadows could be pushed towards pink (or at least orange). The colour ramp atm is pretty straight so it makes them a bit dull.
Gecimen, a good read, thank you. Doesn't stop some people being stupid, but then again, nothing will.
Μy dearest ParkerBabyDiaperCompany, I really don't care much for either your tone or your kinks. Read up on your history and sociology some more, however, because uneducated guesstimates about the social construction of attraction throughout the ages makes me very mad. Non-fat women were ridiculed and avoided as ugly in the 18th century.Thin women have been considered ugly and unhealthy. Besides, the notion that you or anyone can set the rules of what women's bodies ought to look like, is totally sexist and ridiculous.
You are trying to make your own sexual attraction into a universal rule. Let me tell you, it's neither polite or amusing, or particularly intelligent.
Also, if you are so nonchalant about them being drawings and having no minds, then why are you so set on telling us they are very limp-making to you, in an erotic sense? What have you to gain from letting everyone here know what arouses you, at the expense of two pixelated representations of fat lesbian women?
At least you get points for being an out-in-the-open bigot like dearest Mngwa.
I don't think most people were made to be attracted to obesity, regardless of the media.
I also don't think the people talking about this specific piece are making any broad sociological statements.
These as they are drawn do not look realistic, and they are not self identifying as any gender because they haven't minds. I don't understand the fuss.
You see the number of humiliating posts at fat drawn women on such an art site with closed population (unlike DA) and you get to think how the minds of people are shaped by the criteria of the modern media. Women are women, and the fact that only the skinny ones turn you on solely exists because of the American media who is selling impossiblity and unhappiness to increase consumption habits since 1950's.
What's so weird about chubby or curvaceous women? What's weird for me is the people who become offended by this kind of picture.
Just report the immature comments and don't let them bother you. That's what I've been doing.
People can be so annoying... they are two women, not creatures. women come in all shapes/sizes.
This is really cute and silly/fun and you did a great job <3
These are weird creatures, but I like the bike.
I like this picture. It's very different (in subject) from what you usually see in this page.
What's with the "unknown gender" comments? Large breasts and areolas, fat deposits focussed on the thighs, soft/round faces, full lips... are these masculine characteristics in your land? Femininity is not relegated strictly to stick-thin models with implants.
Apologies for feedin' the trolls.
Thank you for the kind words, Darth Mandarb. I agree about censorship, and also agree that I
don't want to protest it here. There's a time and place for everything.
I love it that you think this pixel transcends race. It's often the case that only white, thin women are accepted as the norm of human experience. See how
commented on this pixel if you don't know what I mean. They're seen as weird, and their gender is "unknown", contrary to their own self-identification as 'female'.
OK, cool. It's not often that someone comes out and says they're racist the way you do, so I suppose you get points for being an outspoken bigot :) Your kinks are no concern of mine, dearest, so please kindly keep them to yourself.
Gecimen thank you for the kind words and for the help!
I think you're right, we can't really change the front page of pixeljoint, and I'd never do anything to hurt the site either. I was protesting societal norms about breasts in general I guess ^-^
Thanks a million, Cure! Will totally go the extra mile doing AA as you suggest, and you're so right. I also agree with the saturation and contrast. It's a conscious decision, to make it look like vintage pin-ups (I don't know if I managed to do that, but whenever I up the contrast it definitely strays away from the original idea). Thanks again for the edit!
Part of the reason my edit may have made the figures stand out more was that I upped the contrast and saturation. Of course there are a range of skin tones, and if you're going for a more olive tone then that's fine, you should ignore the peachy caucasian tones that I gave them. But I still think increasing the contrast and shifting toward a brown that's less green would benefit the piece. Your call, naturally. Seconding the "final sweep for stray pixels/AA crit", particularly AA around the black, since black makes the harshest jaggies.
The whole "censor your preview" thing on PJ is just stupid. It's the internet... it's 2012... get over it. Alas we don't make the rules and "they" have final say on what gets approved so you must play by their rules I suppose (no matter how antiquated/out-dated).
Now... I love this pixel! I love the expressions on their faces and how "free" they feel! That's a hard thing to capture and you did it very well! I could probably nit-pick some anatomy issues but honestly the piece works so well for me that I don't feel the need. Just being honest I didn't really get a "latina" feel from either woman in the piece but that's not a problem 'cause I didn't really get any feeling other than just free-spirited women and to me, that transcends race any day!
Good job!
I like the piece as a whole, a few pixels here and there (shadow under the chin) don't even show on 1x zoom. I just don't like the huge dithered are on the floor and the shadow on the floor. Minor details anyway.
About colors, the people may be talking bout the fact that the rider has a face that looks french or something along those lines. Yet again the blue haired girl's looks and colors are totally consistent.
As for the nudity part, I'm 100% there with you and while I'm quite against the existence of pornography industry (which is another discussion), I'm all for the freedom of pornographic art and I think we should somehow show everyone that these 2 are completely different things. I believe human ethics are not damaged by nipples or penis, but rather by the shame of owning them, that leads to covering them.
But can we do this on the front page of PJ without harming the site? I don't know. I'm sure as hell somebody would eventually report the site to whatever authorities if there were enough nude previews. I don't know, maybe a better way is attracting attention and making people click on your art with their own will.
Oh wow. You are so right, and thank you for taking the time to type all this! I will definitely go back and do that! I gave myself a deadline, because I have a busy work schedule, but that's no excuse for not doing my best :) Thanks again for sharing your experience! :) (It's funny about the leg, I already made a call to lower it 3 pixels yesterday ^-^ I'll see how it looks back up)
I like your characters, they have a lot of personality.
I think this would probably benefit from you going back and doing another pass over the whole piece, cleaning up strange shapes and stray pixels. For example, on the lady with the buns, below her knee there is a stray pixel, and there is some laddering on her hair line, giving it a more pixellated appearance than is necessary.
On to general anatomy: I think the outstretched leg with the shoe should be raised 2 or 3 pixels given the angle of the leg.
On the topic of AA, you've missed some oppurtunities to AA the darker shades of your palette against the background with some of your skin tones. Most notably for the black wheels and darkest shade of the bike frame.
Ahahahaha! :) I know right? The bicycle is fine. It's a threesome, really
seems like a pretty difficult trick. I feel bad for the bicycle... oh, wait.:)
While I'm glad you like the bike, Mngwa, I really could care less about what turns you on and what doesn't. This is not your personal porn, and I don't appreciate you misgendering these two female characters simply because they don't "appeal to you". Just because you don't like someone's appearance doesn't mean they are a boy or a hermaphrodite or a "whatever".
This is a lot like telling me what to do with my pixel. I appreciate critique, I'm always ready to go and fix things if I agree. I definitely do not appreciate being told what to do. And no, the relationship of hues between the girls and background is not something I wish to change.
I don't think you understand what I'm saying - and I know that non-caucasions come in more than one color.
This isn't about race - it's about the color of your characters not reading as well as they could. If you insist that their skin tone be more "yellow" than "red" then perhaps you should change the background color to something other than yellow-greenish-tan (such as a tan closer to the red portion of the color spectrum).
To be honest I think this looks pretty good with the colors as is, but Cure's edit (with the augmented colors) makes the characters stand out more. That's all we're saying,
The best thing in the whole picture is probably the bike, I really like the rotating wheels illusion. Those two figures are well shaded, but that's all. Maybe it is just me, but I find the scene and those two fat girls (boys, hermaphrodites, whatever,..) really not appealing.
I can be colder if you think I'm not chill enough. I'm talking about hue too. Non-caucasians don't only come in one color. Thank you for your input, though
Whoa Neo, take a chill pill.
Cure's edit also looks darker than caucasion, in my opinion (as a white man, myself). And the redder skin tone contrasts better over the background.
He was making a comment on hue, not race.
Cure, I'll take care of the warning, thanks!
I am a little mystyfied about the skin colors. Your edit is awesome and all, but they don't look latina at all. Caucasian isn't the default skin color.
Yeah, the preview should lack nudity and also have some sore of nudity warning (usually the word "nudity")
Nice pixelling, and those figures look like they were fun to pixel. I feel like the skintones are a little yellow, and could be moved closer to red and futher from green. edit.
I don't think I ever left ^-^' Been overworked, is all.
A mature content warning on the .gif preview? Like, the word "warning" ?
Thanks for the heads up, and the kind words :)
Ooh, guess who's finally back. c:
I'm fairly certain PJ calls for mature content warnings in the previews of these types of pieces. Take care of that, and this will probably be accepted in a jiffy because you've done a brilliant job here.
What Stickman said previously about the leg. It would be simpler to let it remain in the foreground. As is it looks like an amputee's leg, it's impossible to be behind the other leg and between the bike's seat. This is over a year old so I don't really expect you to go back and change anything, but if you ever decide to tweak this down the road.
