So, I tried fixing the anatomy, the lighting, the composition... I haven't done any texturing. As you can see, I used bat wings as a reference, folded them down to give a menacing feel to the piece. Changed the pose for a more threatening one too... like the soldier can't escape, he's right in the middle of the flames. I hope this is useful.
I don't understand where I'm wrong. I think that the anatomy of the dragon as it is now is lacking.
You've disregarded the musculature of the dragon, which makes it seem like a poorly done clay sculpture. Why? Because it lacks structure, and what there currently is is some kind of amalgamation of elements which are only related to by the skin's texture.
The texture doesn't take in count of the shape of the dragon, the joints are practically non-existent, the wings are straight and seem flat. Add to that, the flames don't look like flames, just like some beam of light. Your pixel clusters are messy, too. Take the time necessary to get your work clean.
Even the soldier is in an awkward position: why this angle? Why is he sideways?
The redeeming aspect of this piece for me is the head.
I'll post again with an edit, I hope it helps.
so you are wrong because you don't even know what we were talking about.. it was something before it was approved.
The anatomy doesn't look credible for the dragon.
this looks all kinds of flat and strange, the colours are good, but the geometry is wonky, a lot of pillowshading.
I agree with Cure. Though I like the piece maybe just some stalactites hanging above or something. Great work though.
Then the top of the image is extremely empty and really detracts from the piece.
no, I am thinking if I add the mountains or not..
edit:
actually I wont
ah, also the dark space left is for some mountains I am gonna add.. Taking a break now.
Past two pieces from you have been a huge improvement compared to the rest of the work in your gallery. Well done! :D
