I ám taking it seriously, but what is all this about me lying to myself? What would I be lying about?
Look.. i still think the same way. 170 colors make non sense at all, lot of them useless colors. Where the pixels is placed, is a non sense as well.
I also see that you are still so young (14 years old). You will realize in a future what are you saying now. We all have experience in pixel art for lot of years, much more than 3. Is difficult to lie us, also have to know is not right to lie to yourself, i insist on that point.
For your age, you got a really nice skills painting and drawing, but as a pixel artist, you should take what we are saying to you seriously, because if you dont do that, you wont improve and you wont have our attention in next works. Be serious, emm, because you got a good skills.. then you just need to be honest with yourself and keep working hard the next years to surprise all of us. Sure, you will... but just if you take this seriously.
I stop here, think about it. I wish you the best for your next works.
I can see why people might think I made that one (the butterfly) in a different way than simply draw it with pixels,
but I didn't. I don't do any digital art, other than pixelart.
170 colours makes a lot more sense to me. The picture is .png format, so it's still just the way it was when I made it, unlike with .jpg format. And there is no way I could've used 1268 unique colours.
That picture.. That's nowhere to be found in the original.. Strange, truly.
I am sure you did it yourself, yes, but I think you did a digital drawing, you indexed the image, and then you work on this base. Maybe my english suck too much when I want to express myself, but I think that you get what i am saying. by the way, I am not attacking you.
Actually, it's only you who know how did you do this piece, but I still think that there are lot of stuff that make non sense, if we talk about pixel art.
Whatever, I still think the same way, but if i am wrong, just in case (that i dont think so).. I can advice you that you should put the pixels in a places that make sense, with more precision, to make it looks like a real pixel art piece.
Good luck.
EDIT: I forgot to tell you the reason of why I think this way. Is because in this piece that you done: http://www.pixeljoint.com/pixelart/69692.htm . The first time I check the picture (yesterday), and I can count at first 256 colors (the max..)
Right now, i check again and is 170 colors (wtf?) desmond.imageshack.us/Himg38/scaled.php
There are lot of colors that look almost the same, useless colors, etc. I think I know what I am talking about, and I didn't mean to hurt you.
Are you serious? I did all of this myself, placed every pixel with my own hands.
I'm nót lying, and what you're saying there hurts. I'm not that kind of a person.
I've been doing pixel art for 3,5 years now, I wouldn't dare fake something like this. I'd háte myself.
Do you even know how that feels?
I spend hours working on these things, because pixel art is what I love doing most of all.
And I get called a liar for it.
The last pictures that you got on your gallery, they are just an indexed image.. I dont know if the real picture that you've done (the photo montage itself+drawing on it) is actually a digital drawing done by yourself (i guess it is)... But you didnt do this pixel by pixel. We all know that, and i am really shock that admins approved your image. I am sure that you did it, yes, but not as a pixel art piece.
If you take it as a compliment, i just want to say something without any kind of bad intention: Dont lie to yourself, because this way you wont improve or learn to do anything in this life with your attitude.
Best regards, and good luck.
To those who think I didn't do this all myself, I'll take it as a compliment.
Elk: No. The proportions are pretty off. If this was a trace it would be a hilariously bad one. It's not.
Thank you for the feedback.
You're right, of course. I was never really satisfied with the expression of the face..
But I made this quite a while ago, and have improved since then.
It obviously is not indexed and greyscaled, which is visible even without seeing the ref.
You lost quite a bit of power from the original photo. Esp the expression of the face and the lighting are a lot more interesting in the original. And you also somewhat stretched him.
Pretty much looks like indexed and grayscaled photo.
Please, put a link to a reference picture into description.
I think the point of the argument is this: Pixel art relies heavily on understanding color theory and color conservation. In almost all cases, knowing when to reuse colors rather than adding new ones makes for a more interesting, high quality picture. Just keep it in mind for future pieces.
When you find yoruself reaching for another color, think "Is there something in my palette that could do the same job here?". There's really no reason for 170 different grayscale colors when it could be accomplished in under 20 with no loss of quality. More importantly, conserving colors helps you think outside the box.
