Loving the look! You should try to squeeze as much as you can out of the palette on each sprite, though; the wolf, bird, spider, and zombie feel a bit lacking.
Not bad. It does look like either Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest-like enemies. An 8-bit feel for this one. Good work! I think that piece should be allowed, here. 
From the thumbnail I immediately recognized the spider as being similar to final fantasy 1. Good job getting this level of detail into a small space with a limited palette.
