An interesting choice for your first pixel art! I feel like the piece lacks contrast, somewhat - with that one yellow used very evenly over the piece, it feels a little flat. There's shading on what looks like the hedgehog's snout, but you don't see much of that shading anywhere else. I rather like the thorns, nice job on those!
Some of the lines are uneven, but I don't really know how to explain fixing that outside of practice. A lot of it is acquired techniques and learning over the course of several pieces what does and doesn't look right. But, maybe I can explain it some.
Here's an uneven line next to an even one. The one on the right is a smoother curve, while the one on the left looks uneven. The reason for this is actually a very logical pattern, if you count the pixels:
5, 3, 2, 1, 1, 1, 2, 3, 4, 9. What's so logical about that? The numbers are pretty uniform in that if you count them, you don't have any uneven sequences where the numbers are skipping around like 1, 3, 1, 5, 2, 8 - it gradiates from high to low and back again even if it skips a few numbers in the process. Again with a circle:
Hopefully this illustrates the concept a little. There's always situations that call for uneven lines - you learn that through practice - but using techniques like this can give you smoother curves. Keep doing interesting and ambitious pieces that put you out of your comfort zones! I hope you post more pixel art on here!
oh hey, thanks for the comment! and quite right too, I thought I had explained the why, but it seems I did so only in the forum, in the WIP section.
historically, I think none. no connection. BUT, I actually started this piece by saying to a friend "tell me something you like – I feel like pixelating" (something like that). turns out the guy likes hedgehogs and is named Carlos, so I did it in a format that he could use for avatar (100x100 px).
additionally, although I'm not sure, I don't think illuminations had anything to do with the capitular (the big letter) other than being meaningfull for the whole story/text/song.
thanks again for showing interest :D
Nice! Only one thing I wonder: what's the connection between a hedgehog and the captal "C"...
wow this is so cool o:
