It's been a while since I've submitted anything.. mostly because I've been working on this game off and on for about 2 years! I can't believe it's taken so long, but it's finally done. There's alot of art I'd like to show, so this'll probably be the first in a series (maybe 5 total). Of course, I'd very much like to hear any critiques you all have, if any, but I'd like you try the game out too, if it looks interesting at all:

I chose to use a more restrictive color palette (NES palette) from the outset and it's worked out great. It forces you to work within a smaller selection and therefore speeds up the process because you spend less time deciding what colors to use. Also, I like that it results in a sharper/higher-contrast image. I tried to stay within this color palette, but there are parts of the game where it just wouldn't work, for example the background pattern in the title screen, so I just picked from outside the palette in that case.
Also worth noting, I think, is that I made all the pixel art first, before I started coding anything. So it was like having a complete mock-up of the game, before anything functioned. I don't think I'll do that again though, as I think it's better to have simple placeholder art first, so you can prototype, then flesh it out later. But this aproach still worked out okay.
Anyways, I'm eager to hear any and all feedback.

I'm gonna add a diffulty change thing at the beginning so it's a bit easier for people. The concensus is that it's quite hard.
