I'm not really a traditional pixel artist, but I do control the pixels placed.

I guess it depends on if you guys would even accept this, so I'm trying it out to see.

I define myself as a pixel artist and others define me as one as well.

I really love doing scenery, it's a big passion for me.

Limiting your colors and having full control of them does not mean you can't be realistic.  Check the hall of fame here if you're not convinced.  It's just that pixel art is all about the control and limitations, most notably color count and the tools used to create the image.  (pencil that pushes one color, a 1 pixel pencil to refine, an eraser that doesn't add any kind of blurring or smudging, the bucket fill, etc.) Basically tools that only work with one color at a time and refinement tools that work on the pixel level to refine on the pixel level to finish the piece.

Alright, thanks for the advice. It actually has around 18k colors, but you know.. I do color blend and then pixel it and detail it out. I guess I don't fit in much anywhere, oops :c

I came here more for the advice anyway, but I don't like limiting my color pallets as I desire to be realistic with my pieces. I think I got what I needed then.

This piece is an absolute joy to my eyes.  Though it can't be considered pixel art, since it might have well over 1,000 colors.  How'd you create this? What tools?  Pixel art frowns upon tools such as auto aliasing, transparency that adds colors and what not.  The idea of pixel art is control over all of the colors you use, which is an impossibility here.   Also, seeing I think there are a couple of errors and you could definitely leeway pixel art fundamentals just here and there to further refine this piece once the color count is within a decent range.  (I'd say 50 ish max for something like this) Some examples:

Broken outlines along the dog, most notably around his back thigh and around the top of the head.

Cleaner outlines, most notably on the little puppy (jaggies here) to the left of the big dog and the back of the sheep. (try outlining here with 1 pixel thick lines)

Anti aliasing imrpovements- the only real thing I'd advise to improve with aliasing is the hill at the left edge of the screen.  You have a very nice AMOUNT of AA that still retains the crispness, but the application could be improved, for example (look to the edge of the hill at the left edge of the piece) :  i.imgur.com/l4ygy.png

What? I don't understand what you're saying?

I didn't use any transpareny in this piece, I know how high the color count it.

NO ! 18412 c , maybe ! the technique is indeed pixel art. but the use of transparency is not a control of color, la palette doit être défffinit !
