I agree with Ashkin, there isn't a good connection between the frames. The contour could be brighter (or less thick), since fire is a reaction that emanates light (there are some dark spots, of course, but they're closer to a dark red). Anyway, it's nice for a first attempt.
The sprite is pretty nice, and the fire looks good, but I think it would benefit a lot from some in-between frames. Right now it just looks like a collection of keyframes.
Yeah. Was heavily influenced by Frankiesmileshow's Shooter game ship http://www.pixeljoint.com/pixelart/26689.htm - admitedly he managed his animation with only 3 frames and I'm at 6 (for the fire at least) ... I thought I carried the flame through logically between frames but it does look very uneven / wrong. I think I'll have a closer look at some flaming games sprites - Metal Slug here I come. The palette is a bitlimited - 5 colours.
