"I have to say that I'm also a bit disappointed how rushed your challenge entries look."
"I feel like there's a missed opportunity in the unfinishedness of the piece"
"Try to pixel with more care"
Thanks for honesty and feedback guys. I totally agree that this and my last entry are completely unpolished.
While it's not really an excuse I am now on my 3rd month of a new and very painful medical condition. It's possible that it could last for up to a year, but if I'm lucky it will end soon. I draw now during waves of pain and drug induced sickness that can last hours and sometimes is too unbearable to do anything at all. This has a huge affect on my ability to focus and make decisions. Right now I'm going thru a state of "Artist Rehabilitation", forcing myself to draw even if I feel terrible in hopes of slowly becoming used to my internal distraction. I'm happy just to draw right now and submit it even if it's a bit crap and many times less than what I am capable of. Not that I was that great anyway!
But even without all that shit in the way thanks for the feedback! I love critique and will attempt to utilize advice when I can.
I'm not looking for ass pats here. Feel free to say "Hey PPD your entry is bad again! WTF!?" next week. Cuz it probly will be. I don't take it personally at all.
I have to say that I'm also a bit disappointed how rushed your challenge entries look. Both of them are really great but (seeing your other pieces over at Pixelation) they look like a half a minute speedpixels.
I can't wait to see some polished works of yours!
I like the concept but i feel like there's a missed opportunity in the unfinishedness of the piece - there are tones in the palette which can be used to smooth and refine the whole bottom half, and the plumage (or is it hair?) has plenty of room for some gorgeous shapes. With a few days to go at the time of submission, it wouldn't have been unreasonable to pursue these things.
I like her design and how you played with the colors. :D
Try to pixel with more care.... The piece is cool, but there are a lot of simple improvements that would make this look very better. For example, the lack of AA is absolutely determinative in the aesthetics, specifically in this piece since you didn't use many colors. I don't see that lime green working very well, except to highlight her helmet. That part above her breasts is where I think you should have given more attention when pixelling. The "wrinckles" (I don't know if this is the right word) in the wear look very unnatural, mainly because you used only 2 or 3 colors and crooked lines to define the depth. In short, the problem is that the shapes are irregularly drawn.
Nonetheless, very good concept!
Reminds me of the Meltrandi in Macross: Do You Remember Love?
I think this looks great!
