By no means did i mean to imply that it wasn't manually AA'd, just that it was done so to the point when it looks automatic, in that sense this piece is quite amazing.
i dont like your art, dont ever post here again!!!... <trollface>
nice to see you around here mister!... :D you already know but, i wanna see more pixelart from you :D
I love it. Reminds me of characters from Katamari.
It is clearly pixel art.
Whether or not it's "worth" doing this in pixel art instead of vector, it's a lovely piece. The only not-so-smooth parts are some of the clouds around the head - some bits are slightly jaggy, or the bulges look too flat.
In hindsight I realize this might not have been the best piece to introduce myself here on Pixeljoint.
I know that pixel art has a lot of traditions that alot of people take good care of, and I respect- and adhere to said traditions. This piece of pixel art is in fact 100% hand-made with the exception of a few circles made with the circle tool in Photoshop. Honestly, this would look a lot different if I made it with vector tools. To me the process with hand-pixeling something is the most important aspect, it takes me in a very unique direction.
But I must say, I do enjoy the pic without the AA, I really like how it looks all in it's rough-edged glory. I chose to go with all the AA because I've never tried it before and am quite content with how it turned out. Also, I love large pixel art.
Furthermore, thank you for the kind words! :)
Here is the picture without any AA, and the sketch
PS: It's not really that impressive that it's "just" 16 colors here? If you count the palette w/o AA I'm using 6 colors total. That's 10 extra colors for the AA. ;) (or is it impressive? I have no idea)
Agreed, although with only 16 colors, as a "technical challenge" it's interesting.
What's the point in calling this pixel art if it's manually AA'd to the point where it just looks like vector art? It's far too large to have any of the charm that pixel art has, being such a small scale.
"It's so fluffy i'm gonna diiie! "
Joking apart, this style is very cool!
