A-well...this is kind of embarrasing.
This is my entry for the weekly challenge "No Pumpkins Allowed". Since the contest entry obviously ruled out pumpkins, I chose the next best thing for a Jack 'O' Lantern...a turnip! Go ahead and look it up, but believe it or not Jack 'O' Lanterns were originally made from turnips in Britan! At first I just planned to make my entry like everyone else's, but I kind of went overboard and made a whole creature and backstory out of this little challenge (I'm currently going through my creature-designing phase). Due to the carved vegetable itself being so small, I doubt I'll make any scores worth mentioning in this competition. On the other hand, I had a lot of fun designing this creature and it was quite a challenging trying to manage my palette and multi-framed animation.
In case you are curious, a Raptuus is a turnip golem in my fictional RPG, Super Dragonsin Saga. Every year in Gramenon and other countries, evil spirits come to try to take over the town on Hallow's Eve. In response to these supernatural attacks, the villagers build a magical creature called a Raptuus out of turnips and magic. A Raptuus, though not very impressive or intelligent, has strong anti-supernatural properties, and even the mere prescense of one can repel ghosts and otherworldly creatures. Raptuuses are highly respected symbols of the first harvest in Terra Confundo the world over. |
Now that I've read the story and understand what it's meant to be, it does make more sense, but I agree that the eye is drawn the colours more so than it as a creature. I admire the animation though, an ambitious effort C:
