@Gecimen I changed the near-white color of the palette to a slightly more yellow. The window projections should be a bit better now. I couldn't go any more yellow without make the values of the blue clash with it which made it kinda ugly.
Well I can say that the colors look better now. The piece looks more night-y and the yellows, now contrasted with purple, look even warmer. Also the window glows are better now. Just one thing - the window projections on the ground are kinda invisible now (and I liked them). Maybe you can make them some light yellow or something?
I originally intended for the child to be kinda following her, but it looked better once I put him walking with her like you suggested.
I changed the colors a bit at your suggestion, although not quite so drastically with the purple -- it made it feel just a bit too warm for the cold feeling I was going for. I also studied some lit windows to see how I should go about fixing them and I suppose it looks a bit better now.(Lighting is hard) I wasn't sure how to make the building in the back look less modern. I was basing a lot of this off Russian villages I looked up for inspiration and the buildings looked a bit like that.
Thank you for the critique, it's been helpful for seeing my mistakes. :)
I like it. good atmosphere. maybe you could change the brightness of the windows a little bit. just a suggestion :)
Well technically this is a poor piece but the detail level is so high that I think I will vote for this one.
So what's poor? First off the child is walking towards his mother, not with her. The blue tones are all within one hue value, I'd make them go green - blue - purple. The glows of the lighted windows look unnatural. The buildign at the back is lacking textures and looks modern.
On the other hand the snow both on the floor and roofs are very well drawn. The lights projected on the ground are also very good. The smoke, the trees and the mountains are all fine.
very good work here.. awesome colors, good theme to match the current holiday season. id love to visit a place like this. -- i think you could sacrafice some shades of yellow and add to the blues to smooth out some of the hard contrast on the dithered areas.
Neat mood!
