Well, really i work with steps making better one or other zones if you see other mockups like the Dungeon set,etc... I add some zones with a fast pixeling to see how will loks in general and little and little i improve each part to the final piece. Also as you see like in the chars not have a defined style and i'm trying things or doing different versions to see what will be the best.
Obviously the path, the water,etc... needs more work to fit with the rest.
About the references.... Oh fuck! is perfect pixeling with great colors and all fits perfectly O_O .... ok i go to the corner to cry a little XD
Also well i'm only using 16 colors for all the game and i need to find the best to do some objects, grass,etc... I tried the grass of seyken with a palette swap and the grass is oversaturated by the colors.
C is best, imo. D has better dress design but blotty shadows spoil it a bit I think.
Your pixelling is rather good, but style-wise, the piece is quite inconsistent: realistic trees, plastic footpath and geometric river banks. Seems like you're trying to put a lot of different inspirations into a single piece.
For the footpath, perhaps go with something more irregular. Look at Henk Nieborg's work on GBA Harry Potter game or take a look at Vierbit's work on Seyken (http://www.indiegogo.com/seyken).
Hope this helps
I also prefer the A version
Maybe you could try to do C or D with A's face ?
Very good work anyway, I can't wait to see the next one :)
Because the textured grass not looks good actually with the palette colors, seems all oversaturated :S , or at least i no get nothing that works.
Looks awesome! Dont listen to these pixel snobs. Keep up the great work.
cobblestone path would be a great option.nice work!
i wonder why the grass hasn't been textured.is it deliberate?
I'd say that you should add more details to the grass . The trees are lovely but their quality doesn't match with the grass .
//Sorry for my bad english but I hope that you understand what I mean .
Ha Ha! yes, the dialog are from Money Island. My idea i add some humor like this in the game :P
After read the comments i will finally use the A version, for one part the comments and for other with minor edits in the templates i can get the char moving.
About the path i will try to do some rocks like the ones near the door but more bigger.
For the path, I say you should do triangles along the edges to match the edge next to the water. As for the character, I say go with A- the purpose of a portrait is to provide more realism/detail, you don't need to strive for that level of detail in the sprite.
C or D IMO. everything is looking pretty ncie!
It must be hard to find a medium between reasonable detainled and not too busy....
I thought exactly the same when seeing it!
The 1st character isn't the most ressemblant to the portrait but I like its style better for it is very cute <3
the first one is definitely the most lovely verion :).
The blonde. That person looks like Marche Radiuju from FFTA.
Like, to a scary amount.
Are those lines from the Secret of Monkey island? XD I love the new character (D), C looks very good as well. The tree's also look great . Amazing work so far
C or D and the water area looks a totally different style to the rest of it.
"I once owned a dog that was more smarter than you"
I hope that was done on purpose. The "more" shouldn't be there.
...
Uhh, yeah. Anyway. I like A and B. A works well with the current overworld, but I think B might go better with the dungeons. Either way, really cool stuff.
for the path what about doing it as a cobbled road like this:
www.foxysislandwalks.com/Lesvos/Lesvos-WkJ-cobbled_path2.jpg
I tried making an edit of it:
imageshack.us/a/img341/9698/pathedit.png
little hard to tell how well it would work though since its so sketchy.
everything else looks good except the cliff seperating the water is too geometric.
I think either character design would work but just depends on what kind of style you prefer.
Any updates on this? :(
