Well that's why you don't make a trailer for an unfinished game.
Game is currently under construction. I decided to take the video down since a lot of people didn't understand that it's not actually what the game will be like. It was frustrating trying to explain to everyone why he would turn naked, or go bald, etc... Lots of other little things. It's going to be a while before Empire Eden is finished, but hopefully in a year or 2. Sadly we didn't make our kickstarter goal so I decided to pull the plug early. It was clearly not going to make it. -- Because of that I wasn't able to hire artistic help so it's definitely going to take a lot longer than expected.
I played the demo of this game, but when i went to watch the trailer on your website, i found out it was set to private. Not only that but it looks like you canceled your kickstarter too. Why?
Thanks a lot man. I've reworked this entire scene since posting it here. I changed the color ramp, and tweaked a lot about the tiles and upper/lower background. Hard to explain, but our newest video will show what I mean. -- Check out the website www.empireeden.com or our blog www.empireeden.com/blog --
I'll have an actual trailer video up in a week that includes ALL of the new art. -- We're kickstarting in 2 weeks.
How is your project coming? I check it out every once in a while, it's looking really good. - The whole reason I decided to take on this project was due to the inspiration I got from you and vierbit's work. So thanks again. Good luck.
This is very cool. Love the leaves, you've got a nice pattern going there. Sense of depth is great and the vines look really cool. Nice colors too, though it does get a little bit too purple in the second layer from the foreground. One thing I especially like is the tiny grass details in the background layers. Awesome work, keep it up!
Woah, this is huge. Great work on those leaves and vines as well as the background. I'll agree that the barrels look very out of place.
The barrells look really out of place, but the rest is great!
Some shading oddness on the trees, but the heart of this is all in the right place. I know you'll keep working and with the obvious work ethic you've got going, you'll get real good. Faved.
* (the highlight on the tree trunks needs to be closer to the center, rather than touching the edge; it'd only touch the edge if the light was coming fully from behind it, and this is a yellow light rather than blue so it must be from in front)
It's huge! and really good. Damn, it must've taken some time.
The issue I find with the trees falls to the left side where they don't seem to curve, darkening the far left of them (use less highlights right at the edge) should help ephasise the curvature.
The only think really bugging me is the white outline on the bars and that weird bull energy gauge. You hae a dark outline around the white outline, which results in it looking rather jaggy compared to the rest of the screen. You have several greys on the bull itself that could be used to just lightly AA and smooth the white outline into the darker outline.
The barrels also have a conflicting lightsource to the trees and even the playable stone terrain.
Those gripes aside, this is some great work.
You're very right, I feel like time constraints sort of prevent me from spending so much time on each piece of the game. In the future I will try to bring out more depth. I will be posting more from other levels soon, so you can tell me if it looks like an improvement.
Wow, very nice piece. The leaves and the background are amazing. But I find that the trees in the foreground look too flat, probably because their sides are too... (don't know how to put this in english) ... straight (?) Like it has been cut out of a paper sheet without respecting the sinuous aspect of the bark.
@Advent - It was a necessary video for the kickstarter. Thanks for your professional advice though.
