Not to mention the whole picture is mirrored :0
Yes, but even a perfect curve would still look a bit jagged, right? That's all I meant. Sorry about the tangent on AA...
It's not a question of AA but of careful pixel placement, to make lines as smooth as possible including curves. No amount of AA could improve a badly drawn line. Here, most lines other than straight (and even some straight lines!) are really sloppy, and could have been much cleaner with a 'little' more attention. I'd make an edit to get the point across, but I don't have imaging software operational atm. Have a look at this Pixelation thread if you feel like it: there's all kinds of linework in there, good and bad.
Anyway the piece has its merits and I wouldn't mind it to be accepted, but I'm sure that's the reason it's being kept in limbo. The problem with huuuuge pixel pieces is they take so long to fix. There's no easy way out I'm afraid.
@Manupix: ... how so? When the lines are 1px thick like this, you can't dither AA. Anything more elaborate than straight lines at 45 degrees, and you're going to need a third intermediate color. And I would argue the curves and slopes make this piece a lot more organic, and better for it.
Anyway, vinsin is lvl 1 and has submitted 8 pieces, 7 rejected. Am I missing some PJ requirement? This looks like quality pixel work to me, especially just starting out.
I really like this, and I have to disagree with MikauKahn. It's a 2-color piece, jaggies are unavoidable.
The tree looks like it has two different faces to me. An outer "jack-o-lantern" face and a central "día de muertos" skull mask. I'm not sure if that was intentional, but it's pretty cool. =)
Good concept but I think it would look better with colour, it would almost make give it a stained glass feeling. Fantastic job though!
Yes, but there are still 'ideal' lengths to the segments of a given curve that do not make sporadic jumps or 'wobble'. Getting the length of the line segments correct comes prior to AA and is the first defense against jaggies.
