I probably should have. I just find that symmetry too inviting.
I've been trying out lots of different ways of doing things and so a lot of the finished things that get uploaded are a little scrappy because I'm eager to move onto the next thing. I need to learn to slow down.

Might look better if the face appeared gradually, and some features vaguely pre-existed in the foliage. Like the big-nosed bearded profile on the sides ;)
Most of the trunk being in the shadow, should be darker. That would help with the perception of volume too.
Nice, i just think that you should try to hide that you just made one half en copied it.
I too think it would be better if the face doesn't appear/disappear all of a sudden.
To avoid symetry, you can try different methods. For instance, you can shade according to more than one light source. But to start with, slightly moving some parts should do the trick and it'd be easier :)
