Can't really appreciate these graphics when I remember the old freelance artists that cip soft had.. Those did great work.
The perspective is a -135° oblique projection, and yes, it takes some time getting used to it. You can read some background information about it here: http://www.significant-bits.com/a-laymans-guide-to-projection-in-videogames
tibia was the first mmorpg i came across like 10 years ago :O
I loved that game until no-one spoke English in it, very nice work
Hey, it's great to see this stuff coming to a venue like Pixeljoint. That's a first, for sure.
That said, to be honest, while the volume of good work you do is impressive Tibia's graphics seem to have taken on a couple of consistent issues in the past few years. The big things I've noticed are a lack of anti-aliasing in spots that really need it, and in some spots lines dark enough to overwhelm the shading in terms of defining form. I had kind of thought this was mostly Jan's doing (since he always seemed to be more of a painter than a pixel artist) but the same issues are present here. I did a quick edit of the Deepling Elite to show you what I mean (with a couple of touches from my friend Tim as well): http://i.imgur.com/oqSW6dj.png
Anyway, sorry for harping on. It's been quite a while, but there used to be a very devoted graphics community on World of Tibia's forums, including many of the freelancers who did graphics for the game back in the day (Izuael, Oin, Kohai, Mantus and Gyphonart; alas, I only know the pseudonyms for most). We spent hours and hours grinding away at graphics trying to pull the greatest level of detail from the space available. It was a lot of fun.
