neat! it looks great man, the idea behind the lack of color detail was that i wanted a 16 color limit, but your recoloring look much better, thanks for the tips 
I think its a great improvement. I think you could make him "pop" a little more by darkening his outlines. I had a bit of fun and just did a quick color edit
Looka great. I also like the color change, but it looked good either way.
