No, like getting around to finishing the kickstarter this picture is for ;)
Yeah, like watching cat videos on youtube?
Better. Now the book really has presence.
Well I fixed the lighting issue, and I decided to keep the odd flame. Sometimes I prefer to draw things without reference, even though it may be wrong. (tl;dr I have other things to do other than fixing a flame xD)
Aw man this is great! The colours are fantastic! Definetely my favorite piece of yours.
Definitely second best ;)
Colors are nice, but most have close saturations. Also some are quite close in everything.
Main issue for me is light. There is no feeling of a source, even though I know there's a flame it doesn't feel like one.
The central parts of flame (presently orange) should be the brightest parts of the piece. Look at refs!
Whichever parts of stuff are directly lit by the flame (sides of shelves) should be obviously warm-colored (that's where you want that orange).
The shelves insides should be in darkness, at best only the book backs receive some grazing light.
The main book being the center of composition should receive more attention to detail. Its cover is boringly flat and too thin in the middle for a book that looks large. Rounded corners are weird. Overall that book is a lost opportunity for various textures, light and shadow play, burning stuff.
5 more days should fix most of that XD
That guy should really clean up his books. What a mess on his shelves! The image looks great, though! There's some good thought in the details, like how the lighting goes along the drawers as well.
Thanks guys :) And I guess the only way I can make better pieces now is by improving Orange Monstar xD Anyways, Crozier, thanks for pointing out the flame, a friend had recommended it but I wasn't sure if it really fit or not. Should I tone down the orange to reduce contrast or should I just remove it altogether? In regards to pink, could you specify? I kind of wanted the book to appear to have many pages anyways haha.
In regards to the broken AA, it was intentional. I'll go ahead and fix it though because it probably looks better :p And by lump of pages do you meand the dark brown lines or just the whole brown section below the page?
Real good piece but I gotta agree with crozier. Orange Monster is your best.
Your orange monstar will always be your best piece. At least in my heart it will :p
But its good. Its got a nice vectory looking vibe going on, kind of like this http://www.pixeljoint.com/pixelart/74639.htm
(I assume you are open for critique, so here goes) There are a few places with slightly off looking contrast, like the orange flame (too bright imo) and on the large book (the pink gives the illusion that there is a lot of pages there). Also, your aa is quite odd on the edges of the book. Usually your aa color would be in between the two colors, hue and value wise, or act like an outline, but yours is broken and does not really connect the whiteish tan to the orange. Also the lump/group of pages under the main book is really strange looking and unattractive.
Very nice! I suggest some more softening. Keep up the good work!
