I need to beat Faxanadu one of these days so many VG's so little time...
Excellent work, Fav'd!
Yeah.. I really love the whole sound track to that game. Even the SFX are awesome. Pardon the very late reply, been traveling and haven't checked out anything online in about a month now.
OOOOHHHHH! Faxanadu !
(just noticed I commented this before but still... FAXANADU!)
Remember the music of the title screen?
Thanks Mathias.
I wish you could play it; it'd be the best game ever made!
naw.. but if you haven't played faxanadu on NES you should. It's loads o' fun and has some of the best music ever.
I'd totes play this! McLovin' the goatmanbeast! I'd wreck 'em for cagin' meh girl.
oh those green tiles, man
Minor edit:
Made it so Ramza follows NES order. (removed white from his head tiles and skin from his leg tiles) the sword and shield are seperate tiles so this [should?] work;
I left Ramza the way he used to be in the preview for comparison.
Marurun:
Ah your right some Ramza tiles actually go up to 5 colors per tile.. So I'd either have to use multi layered sprite tiles or sacrifice for instance the whites of the eyes on the head tiles. I think I'd go with multi layered main sprites. Depending on what the restrictions are with those already since it'd have the swords and sheilds already layering.. so depending on the max amount of layers allowed.
Jal:
Ugly yet attractive haha.. (that's the best compliment ever)I like it!
Ulimaodin:
That brown is the best colour on the NES palette lol, in my odd opinion.. I really like brown and green together though. Oh, i did use the brown as sky sort of late in the project cause I wanted to add one more colour to the dragon holding the sword thingy. I was using a blue but as soon as I tried the warm brown as sky too I was somehow delighted by it.
Drawing man: Glad you like the preview.. I was so out of it before catching zzzs I spelled pallete like so initially.
Zizka: Faxandu rules right?!
I wish I could hack now.. anyway I love Faxanadu so it's due time I did something to honor its glory.
Zaua: ah you're right, I fudged a bit on the Ramza sprite; everything else should follow NES order though.
Unless 3 layers can be used on sprites then I'd be ok and it would actually work.
Woah he does look like Adol.. I wonder if they're close to the same in size.. I will go look at Ys III graphics and compare. I actually didn't use it as ref or anything.
Bitslap: IF you get a little energy boost know this.. it would make people there really happy to see an entry by an unexpected person. :)
Thanks a lot for the comments everyone. If anyone has insight on sprite layering used on the NES let me know. I find the whole thing pretty interesting.
The character doesn't follow the restrictions if his color count is above 6, which it appears to be. Regular NES sprites used three colors(4 colors if the transparent one is counted) unless two sprites were layered on each other like in Mega Man.
I think this actually looks better than Faxandu's graphics. It reminds me more of Castlevania. B)
Good work. The light source is a little confusing but everything is still readable. I don't really like the brown in the background, it has good contrast but it's not all that aesthetically pleasing. Besides that I'd love to play this.
My God, Faxanadu, brings back such great memories. Wish I could play this somehow.
Oh yeah master! Ramza looks like Adol Christin from YS III on SNES.
This is good, but I'm not sure it follows NES restrictions.
This is very nice. If i had the energy i would enter the contest.
Thank you. And yeah... go play to win.
