This is my first attempt at an ISO EVAAAHHHRRR!

I liked the challenge so much that I decided in doing one more art for it. This time, completelly colorful... Well, not so completelly.

Since I was a kid, I imagined what was like on the other side of the screen, and now, I could pixel it. Yeah, the handsome guy on the other side is me, playing REAL NEAR the screen.

Again, this is my first try at ISO pixel art. SO, I hope it went ok enough.

3 hours to complete.

PS: I learned that I know next to nothing to what my face looks like xD
PS2: I know that the actual game is reversed, but I couldn't get mysel to work with the ISO reversed, so, please... Don't bite me...

EDIT: Reuploaded the picture with the shading for the player corrected based on input (and added an empty glass near him).

I really like the concept, as well as the 3D feel this piece gives.

I watched it, and indeed it looks much like how it is seen on the movie, but the idea was on my head much before then.

This looks alot like the setting in Wreck-It Ralph, can you tell me if you got any reference from there?

Brilliant!

Great concept, great lighting... love the pirahna plants lurking in the void.

Your first attempt!....3 hours!! .....and what brilliant imagination!!! ok, I've run out of exclamation marks but this is an amazing piece...hold on, found one!

Emperor_Pixel (Level 1 Rookie) @ 6/1/2013 17:10

Yeah, it is not AA (I'd use dark blue or dark green for it). It's reflex, which I though about making in light blue but also don't work because the "light" coming from the screen is actually neutral white, and the pipe needed a brighter color reflected..

user
Friend (Level 1 Jukyu) @ 6/1/2013 16:36

On the pipe, you might want to remove the bright yellow pixels  curving around the top of the right side.  I'm not sure if you intended to AA there, but it doesn't work

edit- it may just be you were defining the edge with the bright yellow :F

 Great point of view!

Oh my.. this is my favorite 1-1 interpretation yet. The pipe looks great.

_Connor (Level 5 Assistant Manager) @ 6/1/2013 00:34

right, glad you get what i meant the first time.

Again, that's why i mentioned the need for shadows =p

Oh no no, I got what you mean. The clouds aren't actually on the void itself. They're suspended, like on a stage. They are aligned to the grass, z-wise, but suspended in thin air, The sky, we cannot see. I'll (try to) be retouching this picture before the voting starts so I can convey better the idea on it.

user
_Connor (Level 5 Assistant Manager) @ 5/31/2013 22:12

i don't mean that they should align with the grass. I mean they're INFRONT of everything. theyt should be BEHIND everything. i.e in the background.

user
Sylon (Level 3 Stalker) @ 5/31/2013 19:12

This is so interesting!  Awesoooome, man.  Adds another sort of "life" to the classic Mario game.

user
Kathyrria (Level 1 Rookie) @ 5/31/2013 14:52

I really like the way you did this, the pirahna plants in the void are a great personal touch.

user
RileyFiery (Level 9 Federal Agent) @ 5/31/2013 10:22

This is a wonderful spin on it. Both of your pieces are very creative.

user
Hiuru (Level 5 Killer Klown) @ 5/31/2013 09:55

 Great interpretation and pixeling style!

JerryPie (Level 11 Godfather) @ 5/31/2013 08:58

I usually vote for challenges based on concept, and pay little attention to proper pixel etiquette and fundamentals. I think your other piece http://www.pixeljoint.com/pixelart/78321.htm is more in line with those 2 things. I think people have pointed out the flaws in this piece, so there isn't much more to say on that. --- BUT I like the idea of this piece much more than your other entry.

Needless to say, your other entry is amazing in its own way. I think I might be giving you 2 of my 3 votes. Great job here.

user
Manupix (Level 11 Godfather) @ 5/31/2013 07:40

Doesn't need any. Harsh light, sharply cut shadows and highlights, nice clusters are what this calls for. Maybe a little texturing in the areas where light is grazing.

user
Emperor_Pixel (Level 1 Rookie) @ 5/31/2013 07:33

You know, I wanted to add a whole lot of things, but I though about leaving it at that for many reasons, one being that a "void" would cause a little more of "weird" feeling. This is absolutelly NOT a WIP, but I might add these things later on, as an added idea...

About the dithering, is tha good or bad? I actually tried adding much dithering for the player to look "too realistic" in comparison with the rest.

user
Manupix (Level 11 Godfather) @ 5/31/2013 07:18

This is great, but also a missed opportunity for something funny or unexpected happening 'behind' the wall.

Too much dithering in the player ;)

user
Mishok (Level 1 Private) @ 5/31/2013 07:02

Great Idea!

user
Emperor_Pixel (Level 1 Rookie) @ 5/31/2013 06:29

Well, about the clouds, they were positioned kinda out of the Z Level to give the impression they're actually "out" of it, although I think I'll realign them, gimme a sec.

The blocks cannot cast shadows, because they're high and their shadows are being cast on the void thanks to the direction of the screen.

EDIT: Repositioned the clouds, but remember that they're NOT supposed to align with the grass!

user
_Connor (Level 5 Assistant Manager) @ 5/31/2013 06:26

amazing idea, but the clouds are on the wrong side of the level in the z-depth, and the floating blocks need shadows or something so you can see which block lies below them.

user
Mandrill (Level 8 Partner) @ 5/31/2013 06:05

That is something else. Brilliant.
