This is looking extremely awesome. I very much like this own unique Mario style. The other mockups are also good for a wow-effect. Thanks for sharing this piece of art.

Any chance you could provide the backgrounds used in the mock-ups as separate images or better yet in a layered format like GIMP(*.xcf), Photoshop(*.psd) or OpenRaster (*.ora)?
Hey man, these are brilliant. I read on your blog that it's cool to animate these and put them into a game, just wanted to let you know thanks for posting the actual sprites themselves here. I really can't wait to put these into motion!

Haha, gorgeous! This reminds me a little bit of how it felt to see SMB re-rendered in 16 bit when I first saw Super Mario All-Stars.

quick question: how do you pick colors for your pixel artistry? I've tried and it's rather difficult. It took me hours to get the colors working on my Candle Light icon.

Very pretty sprites! If I have one nitpick is that Boswers hand is a bit small and might look better unclenched! But great rendering as always! Love the Koopa!

Great sprites, love the koopa in particular but big Mario and bowser are great as well. Peach is a little manly (square jaw) but that's my only complaint. I'll concede that the original Peach is an ugly sprite. Interesting solution for the background.
