Not visuals or style or vision or nothing. Just technical pixelling and precision here
It goes with pixels as in any other media: there are nice oil paint brush strokes, lead pencil strokes, and pixel clusters. Nothing that practice and study won't clarify in time.
You're on the right way =)
I almost exclusively pixel using Photoshop with a Wacom stylus myself and this has nothing to do with the topic of line quality and precision pixelling. You ask a very difficult question which is where pornography and pixelart meet in its definition that 'you can't describe it but you know it when you see it >.< You mention that your clusters have jagged lines and this is as close as you can get at this point I guess. Making clean lines and unjaggy anything improves any pixelart.
Your new example does indeed show more control especially on the leaf where you are controlling the pixels far better. Do note that all the art you have submitted is within the bounds of pixelart and is not being rejected at this time even with low member voting. Because you are new to PJ and possibly pixelart in general I am hoping to get you going in the right direction and in the proper mindset. Nothing in PJ is ever, ever on the artistic or visionary side of things. We deal in technique and execution only. Please do ask questions of anyone and use the forums WIP section if you need anything at all from me or anyone you respect and whose opinion you value.
I'm having a hard time understanding what you mean. I've read the section on pixel clusters. Do you mean the clusters are refined in the sense that some of them have jagged edges or is it something else? I normally work in Adobe Photoshop, just because I'm used to the hotkeys and the interface.I also use its brushes in various sizes and I use a tablet to create clusters, so I guess this could result in some slightly malformed clusters, if that is what you mean.
As an added note I really appreciate your kind words and advice.
I started working on this today:

Is this the direction I should be going in as far as technique goes? I tried to work more with the single pixel.
Agree with jal.
You have the vision, you need to improve the technique ;)
What makes your work look unfinished is not just the style you use which will have that look to some pixelartists. I mean the areas or pixels or clusters are unclean and doodle-ish. In this piece its especially noticed in the vest where the clusters sorta define the areas of volume but in no way do so on the pixel level. I think you are going for a cell-shaded type of coloring but I really don't know because of the unpolished nature these clusters confuses that very defined style. I think its for this reason other PJers have not been kind in their voting of your work. Its not the artistic or the visuals I think this is all technical, k. Anyhoo, if you haven't checked out cure's pixelart thread in the resource section of the forum I suggest you do :)
All your work tends to look unfinished or if a concious design choice then certainly unpolished :/
