They didn't "force" anything on me. My submission remains untouched and my status as a Pixeljoint user remains intact. FreshSheet only suggested a few ways to improve my image (beyond its obvious anatomy problems).
Again: please keep antagonism and hostility away from the comments sections of my submissions. I appreciate that you think you need to "watch out for me" or whatever, but I can take care of myself.
when i read his black outline suggestion i lost it, sorry but he did tried to force worst kind of pixel art style.
@2blackbar - three things.
1.) I tried to add a small amount of shading to the sprite in order to give it some actual depth, but I didn't do a great job of that, and FreshSheet pointed that out (to which I replied that I only did this in two hours just to screw around and get my pixelling groove going again).
2.) FreshSheet didn't try to force their style on me. They pointed out problematic areas of the sprite and offered me ideas on how to fix them. (Because I did this on a lark, I didn't go back and implement any of the suggestions. Lazy? Yeah, but that's how I roll.)
3.) I would appreciate it if you kept your apparent hostility away from the comments sections of my submissions. I want said comment sections to remain places where other PJ users can feel free to offer me criticism and advice without others (or myself) attacking them for it. Any further hostility (whether perceived or real) will result in a note to the admins.
dont force your style on him, original sprite was flat so it should stay flat i dont see hard shading here and dark hat parts could be just darker colour of the hat not shadow.
Well criticism was appreciated, so criticism I delivered. My perspective isn't always the best. But it's a different one so maybe it helped a bit.
So much text…
I do appreciate the in-depth critique, though. I just did this as a lark and a bit of practice, didn't mean to make it anything super-high-quality or anything. Just wanted to get back into a pixelling groove after spending a few weeks out of one (and with my head elsewhere).
The location of the light source is confusing me. There is minimal shading on the chipmunk, however the shading on the hat would suggest there is a light below him. The minimal shading is alright, it's a style although here it does make it look flat. If the minimal shading is to not blow up the color count, you could try outlining in black. I'm personally a fan of black outlining much more than color outlining, I think it looks better but there others might hate it. You could also try just using the outline colors to shade, but unless you add colors you're gonna lose that outline feel to the sprite in places. Also, the light tone red next to the eye, in between the cream and the darker red of the snout, you've got two pixels of that light tone red in a cluster when a single pixel would make it not band and be used more as AA buffer. Last thing, upon getting real close I can see there's a greyish tone in the eye. Make that darker by quite a bit or use the bright cream color, or remove it altogether because that color doesn't read.
Whoops, sorry 'bout that. Added a link in the description!
Got a link to the original sprite just to cover all bases?
ia hve no clue what youre writing about but im sure you act like big boss here and it just cracks me up, juts dont call for the police they may charge you for phone call.
