I coded a kerning library today and it was no fun at all, I hope you two are happy.
Just keep the font all uppercase, but make it dynamic width, so that the letters alyways are just 1 pixel apart, like with the bottom left ATTACK in your edit. With the font being squarish like you have it, you should not run into a lot of kerning issues in this case, apart from hard cases like LT which would look more like L T in such a font, not as nice, but not much you can do, unless you code in either kerning or some special case stuff for combos like that.
Yes, I missed the meaning of the "kerning" and therefore misunderstood ptoing. Well, thanks for the detailed answer. In this case, I didn't set up kerning because do everything in a hurry, in an hour - so this is the result :D
"In monospaced fonts that T + T will always look terrible so in font picking a smart typographer would no use such a font for this project."
Well, in this UI is a little space! I can't imagine what else font can I use that all words got into UI and kept readable. Probably should move it down and make a horizontal or just change "T" letter.
Its not the font at all its the 'kerning' of the font you've used and ptoing is totally correct. I'm such a fanboy that my comment below suggested you had problems without detailing anything.
Kerning is the space between characters in any font and in some cases the relative interactive space between 'odd' characters. This is a basic principle of type and is something we should all be aware of when making/using our own fonts. Some fonts are monospaced and the kerning on these fonts will look off but the basic M space in all the copy makes it an acceptable view that does'nt look badly.
In your piece the word 'move' the kerning of the O + V is poor and on the work 'attack' the areas and overall spacing between the T + T is rather open so in this spot kerning tight will help equalize the entire word. In monospaced fonts that T + T will always look terrible so in font picking a smart typographer would no use such a font for this project.
Even though its safe to keep a consistent kern all around and that's acceptable some character pairs require their own tweaks.
Well, I thought that it is easier to read this font with scale. Can you suggest another solution, more suitable font maybe?
Cute tiles, but the kerning on that small font makes me cringe. ó_o
Allright, thanx for advices! ^__^
