I agree: the dithering really works well for you here because of the rough textures you're trying to represent. Also love the complimentary color scheme!
The way the branches just poke off from the trees looks a bit tacked on, though, feeling more like branch-shaped lines than branches actually growing out of the tree. Maybe look at making them flare in thickness right at the trunk to give them some better structural context.
