I feel that the wings move too rigidly; I think they should probably be bending and curving more strongly. The wings also feel oddly positioned or too large at the base; the bottom seems to connect around the shoulderblades and the top seems to connect around the base of her skull.
I think the bounce to her breasts is too exaggerated. Much of this feeling comes from how her breasts retain their shape as they bounce. I feel it makes them look fake and, while the idea of a faerie with implants is amusing, I'm sure it's not what you intended. Also, that they move together vertically in a way that makes me percieve them as a unit; it feels like they're physically stuck together.
Aside from those things, this is very nice. The colour choices and shading work really well on her skin and hair. The animation of her hair, her hands, her left leg, and the pixie dust are all very pleasant and, I feel, nicely timed. Some have criticized the pose. I don't really have a problem with the "invisible chair" effect. I feel the animation wouldn't really work as an "idle" stance, but I think it would work quite nicely as a "moving backward" animation.
Nice work.
A shame that the wings sync seems a bit off. Otherwise this is a great piece. Have my vote and a 5/5 anyway. =)
This is gorgeous pixeling and animation! I have to tell you though, if boobs and testicles bob up and down THIS violently, they really hurt.
Oh, of course! Why would she go up when the wings are going up, that was so stupid of me. I was thinking that whenever the wings get to their lowest point the air would push her up for a few frames and then the air would 'run out' so she would fall, until the wings got to the lowest point again. I really should of done even the slightest bit of research before animating, instead of trying to figure it out in my head. I'll make sure to fix it before the day is over. It's pretty annoying to edit because it's just a bunch of copying and pasting, and then I have to change the frames of the blue dust becuase that corresponds to the wings. Thanks Opacus!
Oh, I missed a big point here I see now: right now the wings move up when she moves up, and move down when she moves down. Instead, she should be at her highest point about 1 or 2 frames after her wings are at the lowest point, and her lowest point 1 or 2 frames after her wings are at the highest point. Then the movement's reversed, as it should be, and you'll have that slight delay. Am I making any sense here?
Thanks guys!
@ Opacus
I had thought about how the wings push her up, I guess I just didn't take into account the time the air would take to have an effect on the movement. If I get time today I'll move all the wing frames back a frame or two. Thanks for the critique.
@failureboy
It's funny that you say that it looks like she's sitting on a chair, because for the original sprite I used a refrence of someone sitting on a chair. I didn't even think about making the torso move... oops. And the different backgrounds are hard to take into consideration, there are so many of them. I tried to make the blue phlakes visible on the standard dark grey background, since I figured that's the background that most people have.
Thanks again guys!
This is really nice. Good rendering, very readable. The only thing that bothers me is that the wings move synchronously with her bobbing up and down. Since it takes a while for the wings to displace enough air to move her up, her moving up and down should lag slightly behind her wing movement.
her torso and legs remain completely static, which is prob'ly the overall issue you have. It is as though she is sitting on an invisible chair that is bouncing up and down.
Also, on my default bg I hardly noticed the blue flakes falling down.
Is there a particular reason you didn't include nipples? I guess at 1x I can't really tell, but it looks odd in the preview.
Other than that, the floppiness of the hands and feet are off-putting. As hands and feet swing, they tend to maintain a much more rigid position. But, again those issues mainly become apparent in the magnified preview. (could be just because of my poor eyes)
Anyway, just nitpicking because I think this is awesome.
Thanks for the critique and comments guys. I realised about halfway through that the wings were wrong, but I didn't want to /didn't have the time to go back and redo them. I edited the pixels on the hair and changed the length of the hand, thanks!
Hehe, the jiggle.
I'm not sure if this will help, but two things I thought were strange were the row of pixels at the top left of her hair which only appear for 1 frame (looks jarring) and the way her fingers stretch out, which makes the arm seem too elongated at that split second.
The wings also have a strange positioning during the flap, but I don't study insects so can't give any advice there >__<
She's a beautiful faerie, so good work and good luck!
I think the girl is drawn really well, especially the hair which is amazing. I really like it! The angle of the wings is a bit strange for me but otherwise it's great!
Never had it into such level of excellence!
