I used Graphics Gale (www.humanbalance.net/gale/us/), it's not free but it's perfect for pixel art. The colored bars I did manually just to show where a little bit of smoothing out could fit.
You're absolutely right. The bizarre thing is I tested that myself, looked at videos, asked a friend to confirm that the arms move in such a way as to twist the upper and lwoer bodies in opposite ways... and still got it wrong in the final animation. And the other people I asked for feedback didn't notice.
I will switch the upper and lower bodies. Thank you!
The first and fourth frames condense two movements (impact and rebound), which is probably what I should expand if I do.
The current frame count is due to some constraints in the game this is for. Other framerates for the run either look uneven and even choppier due to not being an even fraction of the game's fixed framerate, or look ugly because they don't match the in-game moving speed.
ditto _Connor ! For such big sprite I think it's even better to do 12 frames of run cycle.
Colors and character are great but animation needs some revision) keep up the good work!

@Tpoe - What program did u use to animate that? I've seen that colored bar stuff at the bottom of animations before.
I find 9 frames usually makes for a pretty smooth run animation without slowing it down too much. 6 frames seems a bit choppy :\
I see a little problem thanks to Tpoe's animated version...when running/walking, arms should move in respect to their opposites...so for example, the LEFT leg will move in sync with the RIGHT arm. The way you have it is the RIGHT arm moves in sync with the RIGHT leg which isnt normal. Take a look at the way you walk and notice how odd it looks/feels.
SO in conclusion, if the right arm moves forward, the right leg will move back and the left leg will move forward WITH the right arm...if u get what im saying :P
Animated it for you, I think a sprite this big could benifit from 2 more frames on the run cylce specifically between frames 1-2 and 5-6 or maybe not I dont know.
