Such a good image. Composition, colors, animation, concept, everything shines.

Originally, it began as just a skull using the crazy colors because I wanted to experiment. Then I wanted to add the whole skeleton. The idea was going to be a skeleton reaching out at the viewer, but I felt that would be generic and not have much story to it (I feel like I don't usually put enough story elements into my art so I wanted to try my best to make it have a story)- so I had the idea of a magician doing magic. I adjusted the pose a bit and began imagining the final product. I wasn't sure what I wanted to appear above his hand, but I knew I wanted something- things that would help convey magic (like cards, dice, rabbit, etc). Originally I just was going to have the bird flying, but then I realized I could do this kind of effect to show more items and also make it look more like an illusion/trick.
I must agree with Marina. I usually tend to overestimate technique over artistic quality, but in this piece it's clear there is no room to stare at technique, you just get lost by all the feeling it has.
This piece is the best pixel art I see in the last 5 years, at least, the one who call my attention the most

Did you imagine the whole image and then draw it or did you just add more effects to the piece as it was progressing? Was the dice/bird/rabbit effect forethought or is it a product of suddent insignt?

If you blink at a certain pace while watching the animation you can see the bird flapping its wings.
Now this is my cup of tea! Love this, great idea, well done pixels, good colors, .. it just rocks.
