Thanks for feedback. I like the darkest colour from your proposition. I must admit I still have problems with making an accurate palette (perhaps choosing a fixed one would help).

And yes, too little shadow below the dog and ears.

Actually, I rather try to avoid outlines, however You helped me notice that I treated the head too automatically. Bassets have quite specific profile. All in all, I need to improve the contrast.

Not a bad start. A few points, the piece overall lacks contrast and it's a bit over dithered.

I did a very quick edit showing what the piece would look like if you added a bitmore contrast and also started an outline to give you an idea on how to make the dog more apparant against the BG.

I also just noticed there isn't a shadow underneath the dog, always try to consider your lightsource. ;)
