Science Today, December 17, 2503 Discoveries made at planet Pyxl, analysis of artefact X23 (extract)

[...]

The object in question is a round disk made of some sort of metamorphic rock which does not exist in our planet, the material is extremely hard, and some powerful tool was used to carve inscriptions on both sides. Some unknown gems have been embedded on one of the sides. One of the sides (not shown in picture) contains information in a binary system that explains the measures used in relation with physical universal constants that are invariable in the entire universe. This allowed scientist to interpret the symbols on the other side and, thus, translating the alien cryptograms to units of measure used in Earth.

The side shown in the image shows, according to the interpretation made by the scientists, shows the position of two astronomical objects in relation to fourteen of the most powerful pulsars found in our Galaxy. The periods of every pulsar appears so that it was possible to identify those two positions in the galaxy. One of the positions corresponds to planet Pyxl. The scientist discovered, not without great surprise, that the other designated position corresponds to our Solar System. This interpretation is further confirmed by the lower image, which undeniably represents a human-like figure over an exact representation of the planets in our Solar System.

The most intriguing part is the image in the right of the disk. It represents a dotted line that joins two crosses, the same ones used to represent planets Pyxl and Earth in the first diagram. At the right of this some symbols, according to the interpretation given by the researchers, represent the wavelength spectrum of radio signals, under that a diagram of some sort of antenna for sending radio signals is represented. Could this imply that some sort of communication existed between the two planets?

The conclusions drawn by the scientist investigating the issue are fascinating, and at the same time troubling. It is apparent that this distant civilization, of which we ignored the existence until our intrepid intergalactic travellers discovered it, knew of the existence of our planet and of our species. Furthermore they had, or tried to have, some sort of communication with us. Now, the C14 analysis of the artefact reveals that it was produced some 1500 years ago, corresponding to the 18th century of our age, so it is obvious that, if a communication existed, it was only a one way contact. But, where they trying to transmit us a message which our 18th century ancestors could not possibly interpret, or, more probably, were they actually retrieving information from our civilization? And if they were, for how long? Another interesting question is why was this artefact produced? is it just some inscriptions or does it contain some hidden technology that our science (primitive in comparison of the one that must have existed at Pyxl) has not been capable of detecting? But the most intriguing question is the following, was this object specifically made for us to find it? The fact that a code used in the disk was devised so that it could be interpreted by any advanced civilization in the entire universe seems to suggest that.
Perhaps our scientists will be able to answer some of those questions, for the moment it is for you to wonder.
