A friend asked me why there were only like 3 or 4 ways that people did grass.  I said there are probably only so many patterns at small sizes to work with, and after that, they call begin to look similar.  He told me that was bullshit, so I attempted to find a new series of marks.  I would not call it game-ready, but I think I found something nice.  Always good to look at the mundane tasks differently -- that's how we really learn.

edit - some people are thinking there are only 4 tiles that transition perfectly, some other people are thinking there are no transitions at all, so for clarty : the large swatch DOES contain unique, fluid transitions (albiet hastily done) -- only the 4 base tiles are shown above.  They do tile with themselves, but require some help to flow into each other.

pretty cool...it reads more like a canopy of trees rather than grass though...

Really amazing how you can get this effect with only four tiles.

These are great, can you make them somewhat tileable?

The colours on this are gorgeous. Lovely pastle colours!

I would surely love to roll on that grass. The ornamental(ish) style you found is fantastic.

Great job with the seamless transitions, colors and shapes of the grass blades.

I think that looks like leaves, but it's really incridible *o*

Gras like that with only 3 colours... nuts.

Terrific piece!

@Stava and @RileyFiery I see exactly where you are coming from ith the plain base color idea, but I think at the same time that since the point of the experiment was to do things differently, then following such a common convention would be counterproductive.  We all know that method works.  Let's try something different!

You still have the skills Adarias. This grass is really well made. There's no obvious grid pattern and the variation is nice. I would like to see some spots empty of the leaf patterns.

Haha great work !

I would like to see you remove some of the highlights on some spots leaving only plain base color to give it more variety and break the repeating tiles..

:- )
