Dropped the colour count dramatically. I like the contrast in this one, less of an eyesore to look at the bricks and the skull feells like the centre of the piece. Thanks for the help :) Still things which could be done, but I think i'll leave it for now
Edit, unless you plan to keep the old version in your gallery too.
Alrighty, if i were to upload a new version of a pixel art, would i upload it as a new one or edit the original post?
Thanks for the comments guys! @Manupix, thanks for the detailed tips :) I'm working on those now. I am actually quite new to this and all constructive criticism is greatly appreciated. The mortar actually is a different colour in the skull, its appearance of being grey in the skully area is no illusion :P but i am going to make it lighter. I tried to shade the mortar but quickly realised that due to it only being one pixel wide, if i were to shade it, it would alll be shaded xD so i decided to leave it. Unless theres some ancient technique i'm not aware of in which case feel free to enlighten me (or point out the flaws to my logic ;P)
Pixel art always takes a loooong time, and this was worth it. It could yet improve though, if you feel like spending a few more hours (days) on it ;)
A few pointers:
The bricks 'shading' is more of a highlight, and that would make sense if they were bevelled glossy ceramic tiles; ordinary bricks are not bevelled and not glossy, what they do instead is cast a shadow on the recessed mortar joints. The highlights are not readily visible anyway at first, because they are not much brighter than the bricks.
The joints should not be the same color in and out of the skull, as the white paint would cover them too.
When pixeling brick walls, it's not necessary to draw each and every brick which get quickly boring (to look at as well as to draw!); leaving empty spaces to the viewer's imagination makes for a more interesting experience. All the more so since the bricks take visual precedence over the skull, which should be the focus of the piece.
The drippings might be more extensive, they could give the skull a stronger presence.
Lastly, some of these colors are really close and could be replaced.
The skull is definitely the main part of this. I think what's missing from the bricks is making the highlights lighter and maybe adding one darker color as a shade. The skull is really good though.
Cool :) The skull looks really cute, like one of the Skullcandy skulls. And the bricks are cool too, though they actually don't look so shaded to me.
Much improved =)
