Nice composition and shading. Thylacines rule =)
I think the brightest color should not be used in the head outlines / highlights, it kind of flattens the light and the depth of the piece. Keeping the foreground a bit darker would separate it better from the bg and make the light source appear stronger.
That dithering again ;)
It could be useful to hint at some fur texture, provided you keep it in control. The only way to do this (as well as other pixel refining techniques such as AA) is to check the placement of each single dithering pixel at 200%, because only around this scale can one see both the local and global effects of pixels. If your software permits it (like PS does), open 2 windows of the document, one large to work and one small to check.
Cool lighting effect! I'm still learning this kind of trick, so I can't tell you if the way you pulled it off is 100% correct, but I really like it. The way you got the shading to suggest the 3D shape of the face looks great. I think it'd look even better with some AA especially around the sharp highlights.
Thank you! Yeah, I kinda did feel like I used a bit too much.
Good composition, I don't think the dithering accomplishes too much though
Flam - Thank you very much! And geez, I can't believe I forgot to AA the highlights Dx Thank you!
Manu - You always have such helpful advice, thank you very much! I really have to practice making textures with the dithering, that'll definitely be the next thing I work on! And I definitely see what you mean about the highlights, I'll have to do some practice with that too. Thanks once again!
