I love it ! Your character designs are very interesting :O
Thanks! Him and the rocket guy were the most fun to sprite.
the guy with the black machine gun over his shoulder is by far my favorite..it makes the lean of the sprite look a lot more natural (assuming the gun is heavy).. Great sprites all around.
All right! That edit really helps puts things into perspective! Here's my go at it!
Quick edit from your 1st version:
Broke most alignments (not all), fixed perspective a bit, could use some AA. No transp any more because Paint :S
About perspective: your thin shadow implies a low angle of view, in contradiction with the platforms. I do prefer the thin shadow / low angle and should have thinned the platform more, but I mostly wanted to show the banding fixes.
Yeah, I was actually worried that doing that might've made it to pillow shaded. I was trying to go with a style akin to the pokemon one https://www.spriters-resource.com/resources/sheets/4/3866.png I just need to figure out a way to make it similar to that but without the funky shading.
And thanks! I'm quite proud of the bazooka :D
Egads, I'm still reading cure's pixel art tutorial on banding, I don't think I've quite gotten the hang of it yet. Right now I've edited them to just plain colors, hopefully I'll be able to show some better resulsts with it before the challenge ends :C. Maybe I could add a backround or something behind the circles so I could give them a bit of AA?
Seconding Manupix about the pixel specifics.
About the platforms: I really liked the diagonal shades of your first post on the wip forum - but if you go for solid platforms, i think there is too much pillow shading right now :/
Anyway, the colors are very eye-catching and their repartition works especially well on the guy on the right side (my fav one, bazooka powa!)
A bit better since you reduced the contrast in an AA kind of way, but technically it's still the same amount of banding: those pixels still align exactly the same. The point is to break the rectangles, both the single color ones (large outer outline) and the 'fat pixels' (the same + adjacent clusters).
Anyway, these platforms would look best with only the brightest color IMO.
How'd you find him!? I thought I had camoflauged him well xD.
@Mutley
Thanks dood!
I switched the colors, upping to saturation and making them less pastel looking (I mean the green and red). The rocket launcher was actually inspired by advance wars and the colors were inspired by the artist who did the noitu love games. And yeah, I obliterated the AA, I only left some on the rifle that the blue guy is holding.
I'm still hunting for that grey color ;L
Thanks! Your feedback is much appreciated!
Thanks C:! Alrighty, I think I fixed the banding problem after reading Cure's tutorial twice xD (let's hope I did it right!). I added those so it wouldn't seem as if the characters were just floating there, I'm still working on another type of platform (more pokemon like) that might suit the style of the characters more.
Thanks for the feedback! And hopefully the banding has vanished!
Some really fine sprites, chap. I like the pose and clean design. The colours a well chosen, though some of them are a bit too desaturated for my taste. (The brown/red shadow colour you used with the greens for example)
The blue backround is a good idea, it adds depth. Digging the rocket launcher btw. it somehow reminds me of advance wars, hrhr.
It is just like you said, you 'AAed' them too much. Some lines should stay free from it or the whole sprite looks blurry. AA on the platforms would help too. ;)
I don't know if this is on purpose but there is a block of grey colour on the inner side of the forearm of the blue bloke with the yellow goggles. (Was that even english? lol)
Anatomy is ok but could use some corrections.
Good piece, fits your gallery quite nicely. :)
You've improved heaps lately =D
Only thing I don't like here is the ground patches: full of banding, out of style and persp.
I do a lot of pixel art, the problem is I don't think 70% is submittal worthy which is why I don't post a lot :(. It is nice to have a new piece in the gallery once in a while though ;D
EDIT: I just realized you're from Canada too xD
Nice, I seldom see you submitting stuff. You should do it more often!
Waw! that's great!
