I love it when I get lost in a brilliant piece of art....
Great stuff! :)
Yeah the lighting for the stairs is a little off in that way and at least one other. I did try that at one point, or at least with a dark blue, and I don't remember why I didn't go with it but it would probably help it stand out more. The finalized lighting on the stairs was one of the last things I did though and I just wanted it to be over with at that point. ^_^
Haha this is great, love the idea of a city under a well.
this is really awesome. I love the idea of a little underground town/houses. I think the underside of the spiral staircases could use the next darkest brown though, cause right now they kind of blend into the walls behind it.
The well wall is pretty flat, especially at the top which was one of the very last things I did, but by the time I got to that I had already spent about a couple of weeks longer than I wanted and I just wanted everything to be done and over with. There's definitely some inconsistencies of style here, partly because I haven't done something like this before and I was trying to figure out an approach to each aspect. I ended up with a slightly different approach on some of them. Like with the store front, I had to do additional work on it after making the bottom half of the well wall because it was glaring how different the art style for the two were. Next time I'll have the benefit of the experience of this one to not have the same issues. :)
They just about blew mine too, as I was trying to figure out how to do a perspective on them that I ended up not doing when I realized it would be literally impossible without making a lot of other changes too for consistency. @_@
Some parts of this piece have such a unique atmosphere that I personally find mind blowing.... I can't stop looking at this!
The only things that bother me are the well wall, which doesn't benefit from a defined lightsource and look flat, and the lowermost story. The harsh outlines and shading make it look unconsistent in terms of style, considering the other parts with those really tiny and attentive details and smoother shading.
Have you ever played any of the Exile games? This seems to remind me of that.
I hate this. I hate this so much I'm going to fave it just to spite you!
That would probably be good. She originally had blue hair and really stood out, but since I waited until the end to make her I felt like she was an out of place dot if I didn't try to blend her in a little.
this is one of the best pieces of pixel art I've seen! It is so iconic, yet wildly original at the same time!
Dear redigit, please hire this man to do the graphics for terraria 2 ^_^
Really cool. I love the atmosphere. Maybe the character could be a bit brighter or more of a solid color to stand out more?
Really nice tile work. Hm, the character reminds me of an undead nurse character done by Foogirl back in the glory days of Pixelation which must be almost a decade ago now. Oh jeez.
I love this sort of thing. Excellent detail and palette.
