Looks great man, really good pixeling! Wish I knew about that party, looks like fun!
Manupix: thanks for feedback, its always welcome :)
I'm not fan of smooth grantient on face - it looks so plastic.
This piece was started as comic style (reduced pallete, strong contrasts, and flat surfaces), but i changed it to more "painting" feel. Anyway it was painted in big hurry to meet deadline.
I understand your point, but for now i like effect -however after getting some distance will try to finish it (for a500 restrictions - EHB mode) so i probably take your advice under consideration :)
Sorry but I find the texture on her face pretty horrendous. It's good on a pixeling pov (and kind of ironically the best pixeling of the piece which is somewhat rough elsewhere), but it reads as severe skin disease on an otherwise realistic piece. Since you're not limiting color count, there's no reason to not use more than 12 on the cheek gradient to smoothen it (though there should be other ways too).
Thanks for claryfication :)
Interesting topic btw.
- i'm aware, but my adventure with "pixel-art" started long ago (a decade before PJ comes to life) - so it gives me different perspective.
For me restrictions are real thing (for example doing gfx for c64 in MUCSU mode [try this ;) ] or doing gfx for gameboy color, or another specific mode for specyfic platform).
I think the color obsession is kind of like any rule of thumb, it's useful when you don't know what you're doing. In this case, a lower color count would probably make it easier for you to modify the background, because it would be easier to adjust the values of big groups of pixels (i.e. each group of color), instead of painting over what you already have. And of course, many PJ members are very fond of restrictions to stimulate creativity. But it wasn't a criticism of your work, I was just pointing it out in case you weren't aware. :)
ADrawingMan: thx
CELS: thanks - my refs was drawings and photos (own), It was no my intention to give background much detail (also its not final version probably :). Colors - just using them ;) I do not share this color optimising obsession (popular here) without reason. AGA mode on amiga gives me 256col and i appreciate this :). However i want to make final version in 64 (amiga 500 EHB mode)
Fantastic. I don't know about your reference, but I like how you managed to show such beauty without making this young woman dolled up. I don't know how you used 134 colors, but you clearly have great pixel control. I only wish you showed the same devotion and attention to detail working on the background as you did on the young woman.
Wow, awesome improvement from all your other stuff! The face is really well done, I especially like the bridge of the nose for some reason.
Good and realist. I like it.
