Hey guys! This is an image I've been working on on and off for the past two years, basically. Between college, art projects, soccer, and recovery from tearing my ACL in September, I've hardly had any time to pixel-- save for breaks. We're on spring break now, so I thought I would put in the last few hours needed to finish this thing on up!

This image is the first in a series of three images I'm aiming to create. The unifying theme behind these images will be a sense of the image almost being monochromatic. I wanted to take a few colors and basically construct the entire image with them, attempting to give it an atmospheric feeling by doing so. These landscape-focused images will also all depict a hideaway-- an escape, per say-- some sort of unusual or oddly placed structure, such as this hut in this swampy-lake forest. Essentially the series will all tie in with each other through thematic elements rather than a story or unified colors throughout.

Overall I'm very satisfied with the piece but I've been working on it for so long now I just have to call it done. I might edit it in the future with some nit-picking, though. So yeah, here it is. Hope you guys enjoy it and hope you're all doing well!

Adam

EDIT: had to resubmit due to a corruption within the file and the preview-- sorry about that

EDIT2: re-did the rocks and fixed some other issues mentioned in the comments-- hope it's an improvement!

only crit is to bring the foreground elements closer in with more contrast/color

Succulent.

Pretty... oooooh...

Fairy (Level 3 Chief) @ 4/20/2014 19:21

Stunning. Now this is a place a fairy can live. I love the limited use of color and the sheer amount of personality in your work. It seems every time I click a link here I'm transported to an entierly new world. Super excited to see this atmospheric trifecta you're working on.

This is amazing!

user
philippejugnet (Level 6 Hitman) @ 3/9/2014 04:32

Looks awesome! >> I think the log/root is contrasting a little too much xD

user
Merino (Level 2 Flatfoot) @ 3/8/2014 21:46

Wow, wonderful! I really love this mysterious atmosphere...

user
Felix20 (Level 3 Hatchikyu) @ 3/8/2014 17:34

The new rocks look better imo, it seems like there is a bit too much contrast between the lighter and darker rocks that doesn't seem to come from lighting or fog though, it looks like there are two different colors of rocks. (that may be intended I guess)

thanks everyone! glad to see you guys like it, I put a lot of random hours of work into it.

as for the rocks-- I agree. they were the first part of the image that I worked on originally, so they're definitely a bit dated. I will fix them up and put up a new version hopefully sometime in the next few days!

I will also get rid of the horizon dither-- also another early part that was done. after looking at this for so long, little glaring mistakes like that elude my eyes.

but yeah-- thanks a ton everyone. hopefully I'll have the other two in this series finished up in the next few months as well!

One of the best pixel art I've ever seen. The depth image impresses me a lot. Incredibly fantastic. :D

Arpo78 (Level 3 Sergeant) @ 3/6/2014 03:15

Honestly i don't know if it was on purpose or not but I like the blurred rock . it gives that unfocus feeling to the image. i would have loved that same blured effect on the front branch and tree as well.

I like it. very nice work.

Beautiful.

philippejugnet (Level 6 Hitman) @ 3/4/2014 05:07

amazing :) but the rocks in the front look a little blurred and its a little distracting, but this is awesome bro, keep it up ^^

Six Down Studios (Level 1 Rookie) @ 3/4/2014 04:37

This is really spectacular work!  The amount of detail in the leaves is amazing, and I think you really suceeded in fading the scene into the background.  I agree with what people are saying about the rocks, but other than that I wouldn't change a thing.  Composition, color, balance, everything is quite remarkable!

elend (Level 3 Private Eye) @ 3/4/2014 01:19

Man, really gorgeous. Love the detailed, yet still "soft" looking grass. Great color palette and nice sense of depth.

user
Drazelic (Level 8 Partner) @ 3/3/2014 20:34

Very atmospheric! The only issue I can see is how faraway trees have the same sized clusters of bark as foreground trees. Besides this 'texture-resolution uniformity', everything looks fantastic!

user
Storm (Level 5 Sniper) @ 3/3/2014 20:16

Beautiful.

user
jalonso (Level 11 Godfather) @ 3/3/2014 18:39

Terrific pixel work. Totally agree with ska about the 50/50 dithering in the water line.

user
Elk (Level 5 Assistant Manager) @ 3/3/2014 18:33

very dexish :P

user
Merez (Level 6 Hitman) @ 3/3/2014 18:16

One of his best pixel art. Very amazing.

user
Mr.Fahrenheit (Level 6 Serial Killer) @ 3/3/2014 18:00

aw yis. The house is out of perspective but this is great.

user
Felix20 (Level 3 Hatchikyu) @ 3/3/2014 16:55

This is amazing!

Really beautiful and well pixeled

I agree about the rocks in the foreground seeming a bit blurry though.

This is great, I love the atmosphere!

user
skamocore (Level 11 CEO) @ 3/3/2014 15:55

Maybe less dithering in the middle of the horizon.

Anyway, this is phenominal. Your most cohesive piece yet. You're improved tremendously.

user
Pajama-Sam (Level 2 Dealer) @ 3/3/2014 15:47

I love the trees in the distance... Great job!

user
orange08 (Level 3 Hatchikyu) @ 3/3/2014 15:44

very good work here! :)

user
skittle (Level 9 Nidan) @ 3/3/2014 15:26

I think the rocks should be a bit more detailed but hey, this is incredible!
