I wonder why everyone loves castles so much. Did they love castles back in the middle ages? Did they all go around, saying "God, I'm glad I was born in the 13th century. We've got castles everywhere! I'm glad I wasn't born a thousand years from now. Sure, they probably have medicine and flying machines in the future, but... no castles!? It must be awful."
Did the older people feel resentful at the new generation, who had so many shiny new castles to gawk at? "In my day, we only had one castle in the whole country. And it was made from wood, bird's nests and broken pottery. We weren't even allowed to look at it! Kids these days, they don't know how lucky they are!"
I'm fairly sure human love of castles must be instinctual. It's in our DNA.
