ADrawingMan, Zizka concept was something like suddenly abandonet industrial facility, and the explorer overseeing it. Though maybe I failed this.

ME-262? Idunno lol, never was expert in aircrafts. The sun was part of composition, the first thing to see on the picture, and then travel to other 'interesting' parts of the picture. But I'm no expert in composition either. 
Looks pretty good. I really like the perspective and little details in the backround. Is that a ME-262? :D
I'm not so sure about the sun though. I feel like it draws too much attention towards the empty or less interesting parts of your scene.
I don't feel desolation either, I think there are a lot of interpretations to this word.

Maybe it's because of the plane and the other vehicles in the background, it breaks the feeling of isolation.
I don't think of desolation when I see this but that's probably just me.
