Couldn't help myself.

Wanted to see if I could make a fitting tileset for the new Megaman sprites I made a little while ago. I based it off an old robot master I made when I was six called Rhino Man. Gave the stage a zoo-like feel. Originally, the plan was to give all back colors a brighter dark color to sepparate background from forground, but given how diverse the four background palettes have to be to intermingle, I could only afford to do this in the tree palette.

I also gave the platforms a little bit of perspective using the gray set (the red set also doesn't have a white color, so I had to get creative. The power bar has been redesigned to look a bit more like the MM7 version. I have a few weapon options and extras that have come from this mockup that would be fun to make something out of.

I've actually got this running on an NES emulator, so it does meet the restrictions of the console,, surprisingly enough. If this were an actual project though, I would probably reconsider how conservative I would be with my tiles.

I only wish you would allow me to use the monkey and bird on my game. Oh, how I wish!

You are a NES master, sir. I really like everything here. Excellent use of color and sizes, not too big, not too small and as restricted as possible.

I have tried NES restrictions myself and it really limits you... So chapeau!

Fantastic! . how did you do to test this on NES?

Really great work with the perspective and everything - wondering about the power bar though - if its tiles then it's going to scroll funny unless its on its own line, no? Love the platform perspective and the background detail either way.

Also same comment as other people with all these sprite overlays, would be keen to see some breakdowns of how you're doing it but I feel like it'd need a crazy amount of flickering.

Looks great man!

It's really great to see someone talented utilize the hugely restricting NES palette with such creativeness and make it look super nice. Makes me wonder how it actually performs as a rom, since even the original Mega Man games had much problems with flickering sprites.

Nonetheless, this is really awesome.

I want the rom hack of this.

The bird and bomb have 4 colours? If you're doubling up on sprites there'll be a lot of flickering with more than one enemy per line.

I want to play it!

FYI - The fence doesn't go over, under, over, under in a weave pattern...  Instead it goes over, over, over or under, under, under.

Wow, a real vibrancy and level of detail that I think is missing from the originals.

I've never managed to find the proper restrictions for a NES (tiles/memory aside). Would you mind listing them for me?

Great job! I love the sprite and you definitely carried over the execution to the tiles

Now, this is something I really love to see in pixel art. A remake that follows the restrictions and actually looks significantly better than the original.

I absolutely love this. I would love to play it. It looks great.
