Shit, this is really nice 99. You should have the octopus tenticle animated along with the lava!
Absolutely terrific.
Just the middle part alone is enough to fav it!
wow dude you should do a pixel art boardgame :0 that looks fuckign epic. reminds me of "Key to the Kingdom" in ways
Not at all Victor! :) its grafx2. I just prepared the pallete and then painted with transparency activated to get the main volumes. That's why it looks different. Then tweaked and polished pixel by pixel, traditional style.
the mountain and the tentacles are saved for web? I mean done in photoshop? maybe needs more polish ^3^
everything else is detailed, but the sprites look really simplistic
The rock, volcano, and wood textures are really well done. I personally like the very-blue crystals :) I really like the lava bits in side the volcano but not as much on the streaming down the side bits but the lava oozing from the skull is very nice
at first glance I thought, the skull was a monkey skull upside down (the eye holes still eye holes, but the holes on the forehead being (slightly corruped) nostrils and the vertical crack on top the mouth). anyway, beautiful to look at :)
Lovely tile work. Not keen on the pirate characters but the tiles are great.
I knew, there's some style "pluralism" :D Those pirates were surprisingly simplistic (but still stylish) when compared to the environment. Impresive work.
albertov: thank you, added a link to the 1x version. I don't like it :(
thanks everybody, didn't expect such nice comments :)
felchqueen: yup, I agree, crystals are too blue.. I wanted to reuse the ocean blue, but it contrasts too much with the island. Agree with the color count too!
aDrawingMan: thanks! you are right. The thing is I used a different -more liberal and wild- technique for the octopus and the island, lending to a more chaotic and color wasting result. I just wanted to showcase different techniques in the same piece, which did not help to the piece itself :P
KitKatFresse: I did make some palm trees and flowers! :D but I ended removing them, didn't like the look :P
CELS, Pixelart_kid, Marina, AshCrimson, Nether: gracias, thank you! :)
The color count is my big concern about this piece. The fact is that I did used very few colors for the boat, ground and ocean, but painting the skull and octopus with a different technique raised the color count way too much. As felchqueen says, 30 should be more than enough.
I like the result! Perfect for a game world map. Ah, maybe it would be a good idea to show it at 1x.
That piece got a great atmosphere! But what about some palms and flowers?? :)
Oh I really like this. Really nice colours overall, but I do agree with felchqueen that the count could be cut down somewhat. The skull is definitely my favorite part.
Me encanta, eres un crack. El fondo es una auténtica pasada.
Damned cool! Maybe a bit more glow fro the lava would have been cool, but this is fairly top notch otherwise :)
There are a lot of colours, but damn this is super beautiful.
edit: after looking at it a bunch more times and wishing I could pixel this nicely, I noticed a few things. I think that there are some ways to tidy up the tentacles as they are a bit messy (but not a huge deal or anything like that). I think that the valcano could also use some tidying up, but by doing that it may look like a different style from the rest of the piece. There are a lot of stray pixels that pop up if you stare at it for too long, but this is still a great piece with an awesome palette.
Nice work, but 70 colours seems like a lot, you could probably drop to 30 without much loss?
This is killer. Great piece!
