My one issue is that the tentacled BG isn't as detailed as the hyper-detailed character sprites, but they're good enough to carry the piece alone. Great work.
Super cool concept. Like having the party be undead, and it just looks cool as all hell in general.
Main complaints are that some areas are really lacking in interest (boss' robe, foreground) and it's supposed to be a game mockup but it has no UI whatsoever. I hope it wins, though.
Nice work, mate It doesn't feel much like a turn-based game mockup though... I have the feeling it's missing HP bars, a menu with move choices etc., since a lot of game mockup stuff I've seen usually has an element that shows it's a game mockup and a game mockup without even something as simple as a dialogue box doesn't look like a mockup much. But it might just be me.
@Dominic: I got started about ten years ago by copying megaman sprites in MSPaint (versions after Paint XP are almost unusable, though). The software requirements are very limited--I think the best way to get started is to jump into it, trying drawing some things, look at what other artists have done, improve, post your work on venues like pixeljoint's forums and pixelation, and keep learning. It's not too hard to get started, and with the resources available it's easier than ever to learn and get better.
Thanks everyone!
@Daruda: unfortunately for a piece like this with a lot of dark grey tones, the appearance varies a lot from monitor to monitor. My laptop screen has a very strong differentiation of dark greys (too much), while my second monitor tends to blend them together into black.
@EdJr: that is a fair point; if they were larger there could definitely be more detail, but I wanted to keep the relative proprotions somewhat reminiscent of FF 4-6 and similar classic RPGs.
Really digging the creepy face. The other creatures could be a little larger, imo.
Very creative and exceptional piece with strong pixeling.
Good stuff!
Lovely black and white. :)
