At this (tiny) scale, banding doesn't come into play that much...or I wouldn't call it that. It's more of a cluster-optimization process. And it looks like you're doing a pretty good job. Maybe a little more contrast though?

I'm preparing to do an SNES game commission, it has to look really authentic. You can't imagine the amount of banding this implies... Think Battletoads. I'm starting to feel unwell. So I made this to unwind. It's funnier with context.

And I still didn't have a solution for Michelangelo's smile vs forehead, that's a good bit of banding right there, but it looks good.
