I like it but agree that pac-man looks sqished a bit.
The only flaw that I see in this is that Pac-Man seems to thin.
Well, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt I guess. Why did you remove the foreground (sonic floor) and background? If they weren't from you, don't worry, it's ok. Just avoid doing it again.
Also, the Mario far excels the other characters, incredible level gap between him and Mega Man for one thing.
The background really was very nice. If you did draw that without any "suspect" methods, I would love to see any WIP images that show your technique. Or perhaps you can draw a similar background from scratch and keep some WIP images as you progress. The use of dithering was really quite interesting, and I for one would like to see more in this retro style.
@Zizka: It's all done by hand. I've had some words in PMs about how the style of rendering seems suspect, but there's little I can do about that work process.
It's a bit strange to me how all the elements are heterogenous.
No offence, but it looks like you took various elements from various sources and put them all together.
The background, for instance, looks identical to the sonic games... Did you pixel everything in there?
Normally I'm not a fan of mixed pixel sizes at all, but it works in the context of Smash since the series uses old-school graphics and sound as fanservice. Items need to be easy to tell apart from the characters and background as well, so the player knows to pick them up/avoid them as needed.
@TropicalSnowcone & @Drazile - I can see it, he seems a little smaller than the other sprites. That's the benefit of hindsight.
