A few months back I had a gameplay concept that was a cross between fighting and puzzle games, and I wanted the aesthetic for the game to be more lively and colourful. So I went for the kid-friendly "chibi" style of character drawing that was well represented in games like Pocket Fighter (Super Gem Fighter Mini Mix) and Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo. These pixels were drawn up a while ago, before I started really experimenting with hand-made drawings as the base for sprites, and I have no real intention of revising/redrawing them now. You might still find inspiration from them though, as others have done.

The top row of characters were all drawn first in a more 'flat' shading style. The second row was a combination of revised and new sprites using a shading style more similar to games like King of Fighters XIII. In retrospect it doesn't mesh that well with the drawing style.

These are great. I really like the style, especially the top row. I can totally see these in a game. Nice work.

@LucidSummit: Yeah, the man in the tie and hat is dangerously unfinished in comparison to the others, and your feedback is spot on - his right hand has the outline around it that the top row of characters share with their style of pixelart, but the left hand is much more unfinished and resembles the outline-less style with softer shading that many of the bottom-row characters have. I'd like to revisit that character design in the future, perhaps not as a super-deformed style of fighter but something more in line with the mid-90's Capcom style of fighter artwork.

Love it! I would only critique the darker gentleman with the hat and tie. First, he's the only character that's looking in a different direction than the others, and it throws off the consistency. Second, his left hand and his right hand don't work well together, whether it be the size or the outline around them. It looks like he can only fight with one hand (just my opinion, not sure if others would share it.) Other than that, no other criticism. The poses are spot on, and the characters are iconic and sharp. The big girl is my favorite.
