- A bit too simple, but it's cute, and making a game with simple graphics wouldn't take that much time. All you need to understand is how to make a character jump, add simple ai to monsters, and make collission. -
You could have his eyes, hands and feet on a different layer from the body, which you could set to move with the legs and eyes, and have it grow on a separate sprite sheet i guess, although I'm not sure if that could actually save time and effort.
most programs today allow you to just enlarge sprites to whatever size you need them to be. I know that's not pure pixel art and is thus frowned upon, but for the small indie game makers it's a time saver.
