I took some inspiration from Metal slug for the explosion effect. I recalled that they used black followed by white or yellow right before the flames appeared.

Seriously amazing. Raised the bar. I love the effect when the lights slam onto the bottom of the piece. It's obvious that they're not passively bouncing, but colliding with a real force behind them. Love it.

I tried to translate the beat with the flashes and the wandering dot.Certainly not a strong enough effect to compensate the jumping lights.
